Key Responsibilities

Princess Cruises is seeking a dedicated and service-oriented Onsen Attendant to join our team aboard the Diamond Princess. This unique role is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, ambiance, and guest experience in our traditional Japanese Onsen areas, ensuring they meet the highest standards of hospitality and hygiene.

  • Ensure the cleanliness, organization, and ambiance of all Onsen areas—both indoor and outdoor—are maintained to Princess Cruises’ standards for hygiene, safety, and guest experience.
  • Prepare the Onsen area for scheduled activities, official inspections, and special events, ensuring all supplies and setups are completed promptly and professionally.
  • Support embarkation duties, including assisting guests with orientation and initial access to Onsen facilities.
  • Provide attentive service in the Onsen area, including managing lockers, distributing and collecting towels, linens, supplies, and refreshments.
  • Monitor and manage the proper handling, sorting, and disposal of waste in accordance with environmental and safety protocols.
  • Collect, store, and distribute Onsen products and supplies efficiently, ensuring availability and readiness at all times.
  • Deliver a warm and professional first impression to every guest, maintaining a polished appearance and friendly demeanor.
  • Engage with guests throughout their Onsen experience, observing preferences and proactively adjusting service to meet individual needs.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to guest inquiries and concerns, escalating to the Onsen Manager when necessary.
  • Maintain a high level of situational awareness to ensure guest safety, comfort, and satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support cross-functional service needs and uphold the overall guest experience.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Experience: Previous experience in hospitality, spa, wellness, or housekeeping roles is preferred. Shipboard experience is a plus.
  • Language Skills: Basic English proficiency required; Japanese language skills are highly desirable due to the guest demographic aboard Diamond Princess.
  • Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills with a genuine passion for guest service and cultural sensitivity.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry supplies, and work in humid environments.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural team and adapt to dynamic operational needs.
  • Professionalism: High standards of personal grooming, punctuality, and conduct.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays, in accordance with shipboard schedules.
  • Compliance: Understanding of and adherence to shipboard safety, sanitation, and environmental protocols.

Cultural Sensitivity: The Onsen is a traditional Japanese bathing experience that may involve nudity in gender-separated areas. Candidates must be comfortable working in this environment and demonstrate discretion and professionalism at all times.
