Position Title: One Stop Internship

Job Classification: Temporary/non-exempt

Work Schedule: Hourly Tuesday – Thursday, approx. 30 hours per week

Reporting Relationship: One Stop Manager (Primary Supervisor)

Location: Holton, KS

Prairie Pathways One Stop Internship Overview:

The Prairie Pathways One Stop Operations Internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of Prairie Band One Stop convenience store. This internship is designed to give students exposure to retail operations, customer service, inventory management, and store leadership.

Interns will work closely with store management and staff to learn how a high-volume convenience store operates. Through practical experience and mentorship, interns will gain an understanding of customer service expectations, operational efficiency, merchandising, and compliance with company standards.

This internship also provides opportunities to interact with Prairie Band leadership and other interns participating in the Prairie Pathways program.

The internship program runs from early June through mid-August each year, with work days typically Tuesday through Thursday for approximately 20–30 hours per week.


Requirements

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Customer Service & Store Operations

  • Provide friendly and efficient customer service to ensure a positive guest experience.
  • Accurately operate the cash register system including cash and credit transactions.
  • Assist customers with purchases, questions, and store navigation.
  • Maintain a welcoming and professional store environment.

Inventory & Merchandising

  • Assist with stocking merchandise and ensuring inventory levels remain adequate.
  • Support product organization, display setup, and restocking of shelves.
  • Participate in inventory counts and assist with product rotation when needed.

Operational Support

  • Observe and assist with daily store operations and workflow.
  • Learn procedures related to store opening, closing, and shift transitions.
  • Assist management with operational tasks and store projects.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for employees and customers.
  • Support efforts to protect company assets and maintain store security standards.

Learning & Development

  • Shadow store leadership to understand the responsibilities of retail management.
  • Participate in meetings, raining sessions, and assigned projects.
  • Gain exposure to how Prairie Band subsidiaries operate within the larger organization.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must have an overall GPA of 2.50 or above and either be attending college, trade school, a recent graduate, or demonstrate a strong interest in learning about retail or business operations.
  • Preferred areas of study include Business, Management, Finance, or related fields.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Prairie Band, LLC is subject to Title 22: Employment Code of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. In accordance with Title 22, this position is designated as a TIER 1 position. Preference will be given to individuals to the extent required pursuant to Section 22-2-4(B).

The shared services team is involved in identifying and planning for the changing needs of the organization, shares responsibility with the appropriate senior managers for strategic planning, and contributes to cost-effective management throughout the organization.
