Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Experience / Qualifications

  • Current RN licensure in the state of Florida.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers.
  • Chemotherapy/Bio-therapy Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • OCN Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year clinical nursing experience, oncology preferred.
  • Strong clinical judgement and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage high-stress situations effectively.
  • Proficient in electronic medical record (EMR) systems, preferably Epic.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement principles and data analysis.

Position Summary

The Triage Registered Nurse is a critical position responsible for the daily clinic needs of patients and physicians to include patient throughput with focus on triaging patient symptoms and concerns and patient flow. A primary focus of a Triage RN is to ensure patients are triaged via phone or in-person, educated, and scheduled for treatment and follow up accordingly. This role is a collaborative position working closely with physicians, patients, allied health staff, and scheduling team to combine clinical expertise, with leadership abilities to ensure the highest standards of patient care, safety, and efficiency are maintained. The successful candidate will collaborate with the oncology infusion and radiation oncology management and team to serve as the lead triage nurse responsible for optimizing patient care and throughput, and overall patient experience for oncology patients at the cancer center.

Clinical Leadership & Management:

  • Serve as a lead RN and resource for the allied health staff, guiding on clinical issues.
  • Support the ACM and Clinical Manager in planning, implementing, and evaluating department-specific policies and procedures.
  • Assist in managing patient scheduling and treatments.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement evidence-based practices to improve triage processes and patient throughput outcomes.
  • Actively engage in quality improvement projects and initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee clinic patient flow and triage ensure timely and efficient patient care.
  • Work closely with the leaders and physicians to prioritize patient care based on acuity and resources.
  • Provide direct patient care, especially during peak times or critical situations.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure clear communication and patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of triage protocols, emergency oncology care best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with leaders on debriefing sessions and case reviews to identify opportunities for enhancing triage.

Education & Staff Development:

  • Assist in the orientation, training, and ongoing education of new and existing staff.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the department.
  • Promote adherence to hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, Clinical Practice Guidelines, and other regulatory parameters.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

This job can be physically demanding at times, requiring stooping, sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time. The team member will need to frequently assist lifting patients and heavy equipment. Must be able to work in a stressful environment, work independently, making sound decisions, detail oriented, alert, and self-motivated. Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs, carry and lift up to 50lbs.
