Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center (AHWFBCCC) Clinical Trials Office is located at 1021 Morehead Medical Drive in Charlotte, NC. It serves as a leading provider of comprehensive cancer care for patients throughout the region, offering innovative, state-of-the-art oncology services across prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. The Oncology Research Coordinator serves as a key member of the Study Start-Up (SSU) team and plays a pivotal role in the initiation and activation of clinical trials. This position supports the start-up process through close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including sponsors, investigators, and organizational leadership, to facilitate the timely and efficient progression of clinical research studies. The role is responsible for managing critical start-up timelines and coordinating essential activities to ensure a clear and streamlined pathway to study activation. As a key contributor to clinical trial operational readiness, the Oncology Research Coordinator helps drive the successful execution of research initiatives that advance cancer care and expand treatment opportunities for patients.

Essential Functions

  • Fulfills the job responsibilities of the Oncology Research Specialist
  • Conduct Pre-Study Visits (PSVs) and site feasibility assessments to support site selection and activation
  • Travel to main and regional locations as needed to conduct onsite assessments and support study startup initiatives
  • Collaborates with regulatory team, Principal Investigator, Sub-Investigators, study personnel, IRB, sponsor/CRO/monitor and other internal/external customers; coordinates documentation/submissions. Conducts routine NCI research base/sponsor website reviews to identify regulatory updates and actions required.
  • Coordinates accurate data collection and record keeping by reviewing documents and processes for quality assurance and ensures timely and accurate submission of data.
  • Participates in sponsor study start-up and follow-up meetings as appropriate.
  • Assists in the development, improvement and review of Standard Operating Procedures and processes.
  • Provides educational and technical assistance to research staff including orientation and mentoring of new research teammates.

Physical Requirements
Primarily works in an office setting. Requires full range of body motion; sitting for extensive periods of time; walking, standing, reading, and writing/keyboarding. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 35 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range. Must speak and read/write clearly in English. Must be able to be mobile within the entire healthcare system and other locations that participate in LCI clinical trials.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Bachelor's Degree and 1 year of clinical research experience with a pharmaceutical company or Contract Research Organization (CRO) or equivalent experience required; or Master's Degree and 0-1 year of clinical research experience with a pharmaceutical company or Contract Research Organization (CRO) or equivalent experience required; or a minimum of 3 years clinical research experience with a pharmaceutical company or Contract Research Organization (CRO) or equivalent experience required with no degree. Health/Science degree preferred. Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred, especially cancer care and/or clinical research. Certification in clinical research (SoCRA, ACRP, RAPS, etc.) preferred.

  • Ideal candidate must be a self-motivated, organized professional with strong communication and relationship-building skills. Comfortable engaging with senior leadership, principle investigators and internal and external stakeholders while managing multiple priorities and adapting to changing needs in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrates a project management mindset, delivers high-quality work efficiently, and thrives in a flexible remote work environment with occasional travel to main and regional locations for onsite visits as needed
