Oncology Clinical Nurse - TGH Infusion Center - (260003Q2)
Under general supervision, following established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines, delivers nursing care to patients. Plans and implements nursing care; documents nursing assessments; identifies and reports situations requiring further intervention; formulates and communicates goal-directed plan of care; assures patient rights. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital and principles of quality improvement.Essential Functions:Performs comprehensive nursing assessments for oncology patients, including symptom evaluation, medication reconciliation, vital signs, fall risk screening, distress screening, and treatment readiness assessments. Monitors patient response to cancer therapies and disease progression, identifying changes in condition and escalating concerns appropriately. Provides direct nursing care within the ambulatory oncology clinic consistent with RN scope of practice and organizational protocols. Collaborates closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, navigators, pharmacists, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure timely and coordinated care. Educates patients on pre-treatment requirements, post-procedure expectations, and survivorship or ongoing care needs as appropriate. Works collaboratively with Oncology Nurse Navigators and support services to ensure seamless transitions across settings and phases of care.Facilitates timely access to care and reduces delays by proactively managing follow-up, referrals, and coordination activitiesResponds to patient and caregiver inquiries through phone or electronic communication, providing clinical guidance, education, and escalation per protocol. Accurately documents assessments, interventions, patient education, and care coordination activities in the electronic medical record.Practices within the scope of Registered Nurse licensure, adhering to evidence-based oncology nursing standards Engages in ongoing professional development to maintain oncology knowledge, clinical competency, and certification readiness.
Bachelor's Degree in NursingRegistered NurseMinimum one (1) year of oncology nursing experience (inpatient or outpatient)Lab draw for Infusion CenterProficient IV and Central Line accessBlood draw requiredOncology experience preferred ONS Chemo Certification preferred.Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of oncology disease processes, staging concepts, treatment modalities (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, radiation, surgery), and expected patient trajectories across the cancer care continuum.Knowledge of oncology symptom assessment and management, including pain, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, infection risk, cytopenias, and treatment‑related toxicities.Knowledge of ambulatory oncology workflows, including diagnostic workup, treatment planning, follow‑up care, survivorship principles, and transitions between care settings.Knowledge of evidence‑based oncology nursing standards, professional scope of practice, and regulatory requirements applicable to outpatient cancer care.Knowledge of psychosocial, financial, and logistical barriers commonly encountered by oncology patients and available referral resources to address them.Knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) systems and documentation standards required to support continuity of care, quality monitoring, and accreditation reporting.Skill in clinical triage and prioritization of patient concerns based on acuity, treatment‑related risk, and clinical judgment.Skill in providing clear, patient‑centered education related to diagnosis, treatment plans, side effects, symptom management, and when to seek urgent careSkill in phlebotomy and central line accessAbility to apply clinical judgment and critical thinking to manage complex oncology patients in a fast‑paced ambulatory environment.Ability to communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members using clear, compassionate, and professional communication.Ability to adapt to evolving clinical workflows, new therapies, and changing patient needs inherent to oncology practice.Ability to engage in ongoing professional development, maintain oncology knowledge, and work toward specialty certification as applicable
