This senior leadership role is central to shaping and scaling the end-to-end onboarding and KYC operations for a fast-growing digital financial services environment. You will lead large operational teams responsible for verifying identities, assessing business legitimacy, and ensuring compliant onboarding journeys for new members. The role combines regulatory rigor with operational excellence, requiring a strong focus on scalability, automation, and customer experience. You will play a key role in embedding KYC and AML standards into seamless, data-driven workflows while continuously improving speed, accuracy, and control. Working closely with Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Risk teams, you will help design next-generation onboarding systems. This is a high-impact leadership position where you will influence both strategic direction and day-to-day operational performance in a regulated, fast-scaling environment.
Accountabilities:
- Lead and scale the First Line KYC onboarding function, overseeing identity verification, business verification, risk profiling, and screening activities.
- Design, implement, and continuously optimise scalable onboarding workflows aligned with regulatory requirements and internal risk appetite.
- Own onboarding SLAs, quality controls, KPIs, and operational performance metrics to ensure efficient and compliant outcomes at scale.
- Partner with Compliance teams to integrate evolving regulatory requirements into operational processes and governance frameworks.
- Drive automation initiatives, tooling enhancements, and data-driven improvements to increase throughput and reduce manual effort.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to define onboarding requirements and support the development of new features and systems.
- Manage workforce planning, forecasting, and cost control while ensuring strong team performance and delivery consistency.
- Represent the onboarding KYC function in governance forums, audits, and regulatory or stakeholder engagements.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of senior leadership experience in KYC, AML, onboarding, or financial crime operations within financial services, fintech, or regulated industries.
- Strong expertise in KYC onboarding processes, customer due diligence, business verification, and risk assessment frameworks.
- Proven experience managing large operational teams and building high-performance, scalable delivery organisations.
- Deep understanding of regulatory frameworks such as UK AML regulations, EU AML directives, and related compliance standards.
- Strong knowledge of onboarding risk typologies including fraud, synthetic identities, PEPs, sanctions, and shell structures.
- Experience working closely with Product and Technology teams to implement automation, decision engines, and operational tooling.
- Data-driven mindset with strong ability to use KPIs, MI, and analytics to improve operational outcomes and decision-making.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills with the ability to operate in fast-paced, evolving environments.
