Job Description

Tritium is a global leader in DC fast charging technology for electric vehicles. We're growing our Onboard Software team and are looking for an experienced embedded software engineer to join us at our Brisbane headquarters.

If you're passionate about building high-performance, safety-critical embedded software that powers the future of transport, we want to hear from you.

About the Role

You'll be part of our Onboard Software group, working under the Acting Director of Firmware, at the intersection of firmware, hardware, and software — where your code directly controls real-world charging systems at scale. We're looking for engineers who can hit the ground running, operate with a high degree of autonomy, and bring genuine depth to the team from day one. This role is based on-site at our Brisbane Office.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for Tritium's onboard platforms, with a focus on real-time performance, reliability, and safety
  • Collaborate across Firmware, Hardware, QA, and Product teams to define requirements, architecture, and acceptance criteria
  • Lead or contribute to code and design reviews, unit/integration testing, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Debug and resolve complex defects across development, QA, and production environments
  • Drive or support hardware-in-the-loop testing and field trials
  • Share technical knowledge with peers and contribute to engineering best practices
  • Maintain documentation, release notes, and technical specifications

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on embedded or real-time software development experience
  • Proficiency in C/C++; working knowledge of Python and scripting tools
  • Experience with RTOS environments (e.g. FreeRTOS, VxWorks), embedded toolchains, and debugging tools
  • Strong fundamentals in software engineering: testing, design patterns, code reviews
  • Proven ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams and communicate technical information clearly

Preferred:

  • Postgraduate qualification in software or systems engineering
  • Experience with safety-critical software development standards
  • Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop testing and simulation tools
  • Background in automotive, industrial control, or energy product domains
  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum/Kanban and CI/CD practices

Why Tritium?

  • Work on technology that’s genuinely shaping the future of transport, not just talking about it.
  • See your impact in the real world, with our chargers deployed globally.
  • Free on-site DC fast charging for your EV.
  • Novated leasing and meaningful employee savings benefits.
  • Flexible access to your earned wages.
  • Global career pathways in a high-performance engineering environment.
