The Galley Attendant reports into the Sous Chef and Guest Services Manager.

This position executes the full SilverLeaf culinary experience onboard in a single railcar supported by one or two Onboard Hosts.

This position is deemed Safety Sensitive. All onboard team members must adhere to and comply with onboard safety standards. This also includes reporting any violations or hazards to onboard management and providing support in the event of an emergency. This position requires periodic access to an active railway area where impaired performance could result in a significant incident affecting the health and safety of team members, guests, team members, the public, property, or the environment.

Key Areas of Accountability

Guest Engagement and Food Preparation Duties:

  • Engaging and interacting with guests to ensure their understanding of the menu.
  • Responsible for communicating and taking all guest orders
  • Understands and is accountable for the management of food allergies and dietary preferences.
  • Solely responsible for heating, portioning, and preparing dishes in accordance with oven timelines and plating specifications, ensuring timely service.
  • Provide fast and efficient sanitation of all dishes and equipment to support daily
  • Keep workstation and storage areas clean and
  • Maintain inventory of food, supplies, products, and equipment according to procedures.

Team collaboration:

  • Work closely with onboard team members to provide seamless services and address any guest
  • Help your team members as required and ensure clear communication regarding inventory, cleanliness, safety, and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with the composting and waste minimization initiatives in your work
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your Sous Chef

Maintaining Health and Safety Standards:

  • Adhere to food safety standards and proper food handling
  • Follow standards for cleaning procedures, equipment maintenance, utensil sanitizing, proper refrigeration, heating requirements, hand washing, preventing cross-contamination, spoilage, temperature guidelines, and waste disposal.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitization of all kitchen equipment and workstation

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Knowledge
  • High school diploma or GED is an asset
  • Serving it right or Proserve is an asset
  • BC Food Safe certification; required
  • Valid First Aid certification is an asset
  • Fluency in English language
  • Valid ID to satisfy domestic travel requirements (passport, driving license)
Experience
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience as a line cook, restaurant cook, or prep cook
  • Experience working in a service delivery or customer-facing environment is preferred
Skills and Attributes
  • Demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills; strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask; accuracy and speed in executing tasks
  • Comfortable with public speaking

Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Able to travel away from home base for up to 4 days at a time
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, small kitchen galley environment on a moving train
