The On-the-Job Trainer is responsible for supporting the onboarding, training, and ongoing development of employees through hands-on instruction, coaching, and performance support. This role partners with team leads, supervisors, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure employees are trained effectively on processes, systems, safety standards, quality expectations, and company policies. The trainer helps drive consistency, productivity, and employee confidence by delivering structured learning in a practical work environment. 
 
Shift: M-TH 7AM-5PM 

What you will do

    • Work with employees (“learners”) in the subject areas to train them in manufacturing procedures and policies.
    • Working with technical leads and managers, create and maintain Work Instructions and other training materials as needed to support training efforts.
    • Use Work Instructions and other training materials to instruct students, and show students how to find relevant work instructions for their areas.
    • Maintain a training plan and record for students.
    • Work with technical leads to certify student’s skill attainment.
    • As needed and arranged with management, work with off-shift students to ensure training coverage. Typically, this would involve either the student or the trainer shifting work hours by one or two hours per day to provide overlaps. Given equipment scarcity and production requirements, more often than not the trainer would need to shift working hours.
    • Adhere to all quality and safety standards within the department.
    • Maintain clean and organized work area with emphasis on safety, quality, efficiency, and utilization.
    • Continually seek to improve work processes and individual performance.
    • Adhere to all company policies and operational procedures.
    • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

What it will take

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • 2+ years in a training/teaching position in a manufacturing environment
    • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Methodology
    • Experience with Cornerstone is a plus.
    • Demonstrated ability to influence and teach others in group and one on one settings
    • Ability to interpret and effectively communicate technical work instructions to a culturally diverse workforce.
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Excellent communication, both written and oral, and presentation skills
    • Ability to handle multiple priorities and complete tasks/projects in accordance with stated deadlines
    • Able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment
    • Meets the skill and physical requirements for the job area being trained
    • Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management skills
    • Patience, tolerance, and an understanding that people learn in different ways and at different rates
    • Able to use a computer and calculator
    • Able to proficiently read, write and speak in English, and do basic arithmetic

Physical Demands:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse, telephone and printer; reach with hands, and arms, talk, see and hear.  The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel and must be able to lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds. 
 
Work Environment:
Indoors (A/C); nonsmoking; the majority of this job function is performed in a manufacturing area exposed to machinery and noise; with eye protection and safety shoes required. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
