Position Overview

The Overnight On Call Nurse (OOCN) RN will provide comprehensive home nursing care including wound management, IV hydration, and lab draws. The OOCN collaborates with physicians, families, and multidisciplinary teams to develop holistic care plans. Respond promptly to provider communications, document interactions, and escalate concerns. Deliver emergency response and follow-up support. Contribute to quality improvement through feedback and staff training participation. Ensure end-of-shift communication with the Clinical Director to maintain continuity and prepare for morning meetings. The night nurse will be responsible for managing DME and making sure supplies are delivered in a scheduled, timely manner. The OOCN will be on-call Sunday through Thursday from 4:30 pm to 8:00 am.

Essential Job Functions

Nursing Care

  • Administer wound care, IV Hydration, lab draws, and other nursing tasks during home visits, ensuring the best outcomes for participants
  • We in the service area when on shift ready to answer any phone calls and make any visit.

Coordinating Care

  • Collaborate with physicians, family members, and multidisciplinary teams to create a holistic care plan that addresses all aspects of the participant’s health

Responding to Communication

  • Answer calls from primary care providers and other staff promptly, triggering concerns as needed and documenting all interactions

Emergency Response and Follow-up Care

  • Take immediate action in emergency situations and provide ongoing support for participants.

Participant in Quality Improvement

  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback and participating in staff development and training initiatives.

Communication with Clinical Director

  • Communicate with Clinical Director before the end of shift to ensure clear communication for morning meeting

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and currently licensed to practice in Kansas
  • Must have a valid Kansas driver's license and current car insurance
  • Must have strong clinical, communication, and critical thinking skills
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Must have current CPR certification, or be willing to obtain it within 3 months of hire date
  • Must have the ability to work independently, manage stressful situations
  • Must be able to provide excellent customer service to participants and families
  • Prefer at least 2 years of home care nursing experience, including with the frail elderly population

Physical Requirements

Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
