Alamance County Public Libraries (ACPL) is seeking a Courier to transport 30 – 40 crates of books, DVDs, etc. on a daily basis.

The Courier must be at least 21 years old and have a valid N.C. driver’s license with a clean driving record. The Courier must be able to stand extended periods of time, work independently, possess a high school diploma or GED, and work Monday and Friday mornings for up to 10 hours per week. Infrequent extra hours may be scheduled to complete special projects.

Alamance County Public Libraries function as a department of Alamance County (N.C.) Government.

Examples of duties

External Duties

  • Deliver items (books, DVDs, etc.), furniture, and various programming supplies to library branches.
  • Deliver inter-office mail to and from the County Office building.
  • Move donated materials from various library locations for Friends of the Library.
  • Coordinate with Outreach and help deliver items to retirement homes once a month, or as needed.
  • Maintain the courier van by ensuring fuel levels, inspections, routine maintenance, and other required services are completed as needed.

Internal Duties

  • Various handyman tasks, i.e., putting furniture together using power tools, putting up shelving, fixing broken chairs, etc.
  • Move furniture, shelving, craft supplies, and various other items between branches.
  • Check and replace, if needed, air fresheners throughout May Memorial.
  • Fill out the daily checklist for the courier van and give it to the Office Manager at the end of each week.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid NC driver’s license.
  • Pass Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check with clean driving record required.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication is required
  • Ability to work with individuals of diverse populations with respect and equitable service is required

Computer Skills

  • Basic computer skills to be able to successfully clock-in/out, check email daily, etc. are required.
