FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Reports To: Project Manager

Job Type: On-Call, Variable-Time

Compensation: $24.00 - $34.00 per hour, based on relevant experience

The Environmental Scientist I supports environmental projects through field and office-based activities, including data collection, analysis, and compliance support.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:

  • Conduct fieldwork including site visits, inspections, monitoring, and data collection activities

  • Conduct inspections and develop reports in compliance with Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans

  • Observe, document, and report environmental conditions, project activities, and compliance status

  • Support implementation and verification of environmental requirements, permits, and protection measures

  • Collect, manage, and maintain accurate field data, records, and project documentation

  • Prepare routine reports, logs, and technical documentation to support project deliverables

  • Assist with research, data review, and analysis for environmental and regulatory projects

  • Support multiple projects concurrently, tracking tasks, timelines, and deliverables

  • Communicate and coordinate with team members, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies

  • Utilize standard field equipment, technology, and software to support data collection and reporting

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 0–2 years of relevant environmental or related experience

  • Ability to perform fieldwork in varying conditions and operate standard field equipment

  • Proficiency with basic data collection tools, mapping systems, and Microsoft Office applications

  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work

  • Ability to meet physical and safety requirements of field and/or site work, including use of PPE as needed

  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Environmental Protection Agency’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Construction Inspection Training Course Certificate

  • Experience supporting environmental fieldwork, data collection, inspections, or monitoring activities

  • Familiarity with environmental regulations, compliance processes, or permitting requirements

  • Experience with technical reporting or documentation

  • Exposure to consulting, construction, infrastructure, industrial, or regulatory environments

  • Experience using GPS, mapping tools, or environmental data systems

  • Relevant certifications or training (e.g., safety, environmental, or industry-related), or ability to obtain

  • Maintain organization, accuracy, and quality of work products

  • Work independently and collaboratively in both field and office environments
