Basic Function:
Interaction with and direct supervision of residents at the agency. Ensures that needs of residents are met in a timely manner in accordance with all state, agency, and departmental guidelines.
On-call child care staff, in most circumstances, work directly under the supervision of a full-time staff member. On-call staff members are not to assume responsibility for or perform functions requiring special training and/or certifications which they do not have, unless specifically directed to do so, by charge staff or as necessary in life threatening situations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Ensure an appropriate environment where safety and security is maintained for all residents.
2. Take immediate corrective as necessary and report all deficiencies in health standards, safety standards, and general housekeeping standards to the Unit Charge Staff or Shift Supervisor.
3. Ensure the basic needs of residents are met including personal hygiene, clothing, nutrition, personal comfort and living conditions.
4. Assist in assigned aspects of the daily routine, such as meals, wake-up and bed-time, showers, recreational activities, etc.
5. Supervise students in accordance with the appropriate Waterford Country School (WCS) program Behavior Skills Development Program and agency procedures.
6. Respond in accordance with agency procedures and as directed, to situations which require crisis intervention with the residents.
7. Respond in accordance with agency procedures to emergency situations, i.e., medical, fire, police intervention, etc.
8. Maintain all necessary documentation including log books, incident reports, use of force forms, checklists, etc.
9. Maintain knowledge of and follow agency policies and procedures as contained in the
WCS Personnel Handbook, WCS Procedure Manual, and departmental manuals.
10. Function as a positive role model for all students and staff at the Waterford Country
School.
11. Maintain an awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic differences present among the service population and fellow staff members of WCS, ensuring that cultural needs are respected and supported through the delivery of services and the development and implementation of agency programs and policies in a manner that is free from discrimination and bias relating to race, ethnicity, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, status as a victim of domestic violence or religious beliefs.
12. Maintain a Connecticut or other home state driver's license. Transport residents in agency vehicles, if on the agency's list of approved drivers.
13. Other duties as required by unit supervisory personnel or shift supervisor.
