Reporting to the Shift Team Leader, the Shift Operating Technician (OM Tech Level 1) works within a disciplined operations team responsible for the day‑to‑day operation and maintenance of plant and equipment. This role is suited to someone with a technical, trade or engineering background who is looking to develop operational capability within a regulated, safety‑critical power generation environment. This role requires working a 24 x 7 roster.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responding effectively to abnormal and emergency situations as part of a shift team
  • Performing critical minor maintenance and supporting planned and unplanned maintenance activities
  • Accurately recording operational data, defects and task completion in the computerised maintenance management system (Maximo)

About You

You hold a post‑secondary qualification in a technical, trade or engineering discipline, along with a current Australian Driver’s Licence and bring a strong technical foundation suited to power generation operations. Electrical and/or instrumentation qualifications and experience would be well regarded.

You also bring:

  • Understanding of power plant operations and maintenance or related heavy industry exposure
  • Knowledge of process safety principles and applicable regulatory requirements for power stations
  • Working knowledge of gas turbine operation, instrumentation and control systems, isolation systems and HV switching
  • Ability to interpret operational data and support plant performance monitoring, including thermal efficiency parameters
  • Capability to work safely and effectively in a shift‑based team and respond to emergency situations
  • Clear communication skills and a professional, cooperative approach when working with operations, maintenance, engineers and contractors

You are safety‑focused, adaptable and reliable, comfortable working in a structured operational environment. You are self‑motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and committed to building technical capability through ongoing learning and development.
