OLE Senior Project Engineer/CRE-C - Glasgow, Scotland

Main Duties:

  • Lead and manage OLE construction delivery, ensuring works are completed to contractual requirements, safely, on programme, within budget, and to required quality and engineering standards.
  • Act as the Construction CRE, taking full responsibility for technical compliance in accordance with design, standards (including NR/L2/INI/02009), and CDM regulations.
  • Review, verify, and manage designs and “For Construction” documentation, ensuring solutions are buildable, efficient, and correctly implemented on site.
  • Manage and resolve Technical Queries (TQs) and control design changes (TQN’s and site instructions), ensuring alignment between design and construction.
  • Lead the preparation and assurance of all construction documentation, including Work Package Plans (WPPs), Task Briefings, ITPs, site packs, and handback documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to construction teams, including setting out, surveying, and resolving site technical issues.
  • Carry out site inspections and assurance checks (including sample/10% checks) to monitor progress, safety, and quality, ensuring defects and NCRs are identified and closed out.
  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved safe systems of work, including WPPs, risk assessments, and briefings, taking responsibility for engineering risk control.
  • Lead engineering assurance activities, including audits, entry into service, and GRIP/ES phase deliverables.
  • Maintain accurate and auditable project records, as-built data, and reporting, supporting handover, assurance, and commercial
  • Interface with clients and stakeholders (PMs, Engineers, QSs, Designers), acting as the senior engineering representative through all project stages.
  • Lead OLE project team input to construction planning and programme development (P6), ensuring engineering inputs align with delivery strategy.
  • Ensure availability and compliance of materials, plant, tools, and equipment, supporting efficient delivery.
  • Drive coordination between engineering, construction teams, and subcontractors, ensuring effective integration of all activities.
  • Support commercial processes, including change identification, early warnings, and provision of records for contractual matters.
  • Promote and enforce high standards of quality assurance, ensuring compliance with specifications, ITPs, and assurance systems (e.g. Synchro).
  • Ensure compliance with environmental requirements and company procedures.
  • Provide leadership and line management to engineering staff, supporting development and performance.
  • Provide out-of-hours technical support where required.

The Person:

  • Possess HNC/ONC/Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working on OLE projects
  • Project management type experience, ideally within the OLE railway industry
  • Valid PTS
  • Computer literacy including various software programmes.
  • Willingness to travel and to learn and open minded for new technologies
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and support as required
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Full driving licence
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to stay calm and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel to different locations as and when required.
