Job Description

Plant Vehicle Team (PVT) Engineers are part of Ford Motor Company's Product Development organization and are co-located in the Vehicle Assembly Plant with the vehicle manufacturing team. The PVT Engineer is the 'first line of defense' with regard to Functional system quality for the products produced at the assembly plant. The PVT Supervisor has several responsibilities associated with analyzing and fixing quality issues on components shipped into the assembly plant, and processes within the Vehicle Assembly Plant and integrated remote build centers.

This position is responsible for the Underbody (F2), ICE powertrain (F4), and Calibration (FP) functions for all commercial truck products produced at Ohio Assembly Plant (OHAP.)

Quality

  1. Own cascaded Functional Warranty quality objectives for the base organization (R/1000 and CPU)- respond to plant/supplier issues before they leave assembly plants, evaluate chronic and new warranty issues to push for cut off and resolution.

  2. Co-Lead the Variability Reduction Team (VRT) meetings at the Plant with the manufacturing co-lead.

  3. Support Central Triage Teams performing ECB Warranty binning and analysis.

  4. Lead problem solving teams performing warranty claim structured problem solving activities:contact dealers, analyze return parts, develop root cause; drive implementation of ICAs, PCAs, PRAs as appropriate.

  5. Support quality forums including Functional Quality Reviews (FQR), Director Quality Reviews (DQR), plant quality meetings (PIC, VRT, etc.), Vehicle Quality Reviews (VQR) and Quality Days as required.

  6. Prepare function heat maps and action plans to meet targets.

  7. Supplier support - timing plans, PPAP review, robustness actions both for Ford and to help reduce QRs. Lead is STA Resident or STA Central Quality.

  8. Supplier QOS support - includes regular supplier site visits for key / problem suppliers. Lead is STA Central Quality along with Site STA.

  9. Stop Ship support and prevention - identify issues, coordinate subject matter experts, advise severity and next steps/containment, interface w/ CCRG. Prepare repair procedures for units contained.

  10. IRIS-SIMPSN (Jira) and problem resolution lead for early claims warranty, communication and coordination with VFG/Plant/Others, author projects, coach and develop problem-solving documentation (8Ds/A3’s, etc.) manage implementation, calculate impact, manage function warranty forecast.

  11. STA support - help review 8Ds/A3’s on select high-impact issues, help author SIMPSN projects and close them out, advise and monitor supplier robustness changes. Lead is STA Central Quality.

  12. Plant issues - supportprovide IQ direction (what/where to measure, etc.), process walk support and advise QOSC/QPIP, ICA implementation until PCA available. PCA lead will be D&R for Design, STA for Supplier Quality and VRT for plant-related issues.

  13. Support Plant FTT improvements.

Launch Support

  1. Major launch – Support launch team prior to OKTB + 30 days and transition to lead on issue resolution post OKTB + 30 days.

  2. Minor launch – May lead some selected small sale programs / added starters upon agreement with OPD/PVT Leadership.

  3. AIMS/DEMS – Lead for minor launches, support for major launches, and take the lead after OKTB.

Change Control

  1. Lead in-plant trials for changes and assess impact to quality and production.

  2. Lead VRT review and sign-off on supplier requests for component changes (SREA, run trials as required.

  3. TVM support (ECN, trials, issue clean up, PPAP completion) PPAP completion is Site STA. TVM D&R owns the design and must sign off on PPAP with STA.

You'll have:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in PD/Quality/Program

Even better if you have:

  • Six-Sigma Training (Green, Black Belt, or MBB Certification)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to support quick decision-making
  • Excellent leadership and presentation skills

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
