The Offshore Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of pedestal cranes on a Jackup Rig. The role involves handling critical lifting operations such as loading and unloading supply vessels, transferring drilling and marine equipment, and supporting rig move activities. The Crane Operator ensures strict adherence to offshore safety standards, lifting regulations, and company procedures to maintain rig stability and operational continuity.
Operate pedestal cranes (typically 30250 MT capacity) for loading/unloading of supply vessels and movement of drilling equipment, BOPs, and heavy loads.
Perform complex lifting operations under varying conditions, including high winds, vessel motion, and night shifts.
Follow approved lifting plans and ensure compliance with LOLER, API RP2D, and company safety procedures.
Support rig move and preloading operations by lifting legs or related components when required.
Assist with heli-deck logistics and crane support for helicopter operations.
Coordinate closely with marine crew during supply boat operations, ensuring safe load transfer with DP (Dynamic Positioning) systems when applicable.
Conduct daily pre-use inspections of cranes, including wire ropes, hooks, hydraulic systems, and limit switches.
Record inspection results and report any equipment defects or malfunctions to the maintenance department.
Ensure crane logbooks and maintenance checklists are accurately updated.
Execute immediate emergency shutdowns in case of unsafe conditions, red-zone entry, or equipment failure.
Participate in regular safety drills, including man overboard and dropped object prevention scenarios.
Maintain awareness of deck personnel positioning during all lifts to prevent incidents.
Direct Banksmen and Slingers during lifting operations using radio communication.
Liaise with deck crew, drillers, and logistics personnel to prioritize lifting tasks according to operational needs.
Ensure clear communication and cooperation within the lifting team to maintain workflow efficiency.
Mandatory:
OPITO-approved Offshore Crane Operator Stage 3 Certificate (or equivalent such as LOLER or API RP2D).
BOSIET/FOET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training).
HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training).
OGUK/UKOOA Medical Certificate (or recognized regional equivalent).
Preferred:
Rigging/Slinging Certificate.
Banksman/Slinger Training.
Dynamic Positioning (DP) Familiarization advantage if crane is DP-integrated.
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Crane Operator (offshore experience highly preferred).
Proven capability in operating Knuckle Boom, Hydraulic Pedestal, or Davit Cranes.
Strong understanding of dynamic load charts and compensating for vessel motion.
Excellent knowledge of rigging practices, load calculations, and lifting safety standards.
Ability to work in high-pressure offshore environments with strict adherence to safety rules.
Must be able to pass random drug and alcohol testing as per offshore policy.
Insurance Coverage: Provided due to the critical nature of the role in rig stability and logistics operations.
Certification Renewal: Employer will cover renewal costs for mandatory offshore certifications while on assignment.
Rotation Schedule: Standard offshore rotation with accommodation, meals, and transportation provided.
