Required skills and experience:

• Degree or HNC in Chemical Sciences (or another relevant scientific discipline), or equivalent offshore experience carrying out chemistry-related duties.
• Experience conducting analytical testing and general laboratory activities within a scientific environment.
• Strong technical reporting skills, with the ability to produce reports suitable for internal review and client issue.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively and build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development through ongoing training and competency maintenance.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and data recording/reporting systems.
• Experience performing sampling and analysis at client sites, including activities such as high-pressure sampling, chemical management, asset chemist support, microbiological surveys, mercury surveys, and training or assessment activities.
• Knowledge and practical experience of Oil in Water analysis, pressurised sampling, and fiscal analysis.
• Completion of Offshore Survival and MIST certification, a valid OEUK medical, and IOSH Managing Safely qualification is desirable.
• Completion of OPITO Petroleum Open Learning (POL) modules, such as Oil & Gas Separation, Produced Water Treatment, or Injection Water Treatment, is advantageous.
• Safety-focused, organised and methodical, with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Flexible, self-motivated, and committed to maintaining high standards of professionalism and integrity.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is an exciting opportunity to join Intertek as a Zero Hours Offshore Chemist, providing specialist field service support across offshore and onshore client locations. Working on a flexible, ad hoc basis, you will undertake a varied range of sampling, analytical and project activities whilst representing Intertek on client sites. This role offers the chance to work autonomously, develop your technical expertise and contribute to the delivery of safe, high-quality services within a leading global organisation.

Key activities:

• Deliver offshore field service projects, including mobilisation, planning, sampling, analysis, and sample preservation activities in line with agreed project scopes.
• Ensure all equipment, consumables, and calibration requirements are maintained to support safe and effective project delivery.
• Complete project documentation accurately and on time, including reports, timesheets, feedback records, and training documentation.
• Maintain professional competence by keeping all mandatory training and development requirements up to date.
• Represent Intertek professionally at client sites, building strong relationships and delivering exceptional customer service.
• Promote a culture of safety, quality, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across all activities.
• Provide operational support between field assignments as required.
• Comply with all company and client QHSE requirements, including the reporting of incidents, near misses, non-conformances, and equipment issues.
• Ensure risk assessments, control measures, and appropriate PPE are in place and followed at all times.
• Identify opportunities for business growth and communicate potential leads and service opportunities to relevant stakeholders.
• Collaborate effectively with Field Projects Coordinators and colleagues across the wider business to ensure successful project delivery.
• Act as an ambassador for Intertek, supporting strong client partnerships and reinforcing positive safety and performance cultures.
