Job Purpose: Shift In Charge - Stevedoring (large) is responsible for overseeing stevedoring operations during their shift, ensuring the efficient and safe discharge/loading of cargo from/to ships. This role is critical for maintaining operational continuity, coordinating resources, and upholding safety and quality standards in stevedoring activities.

Stevedoring Operational Oversight:

Take charge from the previous shift, ensuring seamless operations. Prepare and distribute daily vessel operation reports, including recent loading and discharge figures.

Stevedoring Coordination:

Monitor stevedoring operations, taking corrective actions as needed. Collaborate with backup personnel to ensure uninterrupted operations and efficient resource allocation, including labor, equipment, operators, and dumpers.

Berthing Management:

Manage berthing schedules and appoint necessary stevedoring and surveying services. Liaise with vessel officials, agents, transporters, and other stakeholders to coordinate vessel operations effectively.

Safety Compliance:

Conduct toolbox talks with contract labor and operators, maintain accurate headcounts, and ensure adherence to safety norms, including the use of certified lifting equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Spillage Control and Housekeeping:

Conduct safety briefings, ensure the use of personal protective equipment, and maintain accurate headcounts. Control spillage and uphold housekeeping standards on the jetty and work areas.

Budget Control:

Control operational expenses to prevent financial losses and implement cost-saving strategies.

Documentation and Reporting:

Prepare and maintain essential documentation, including logbooks, protest letters, stowage certificates, and completion certificates.

Continuous Improvement Process:

Assess key performance indicators, promote a culture of continuous improvement, and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of stevedoring operations.

Digital Mindset:

Keep up with digital and AI advancements to enhance business and maintain competitiveness.

Team Development:

Promote a respectful and safe workplace, lead collaborative and productive teams, and mentor for growth and success.

Key Stakeholders - Internal:

Head of Section - Dry Cargo Operations, Head of Section - Stevedoring, Line manager - Stevedoring, Other Department Heads & Direct reportees

Key Stakeholders - External:

Prospective clients, government and regulatory bodies, Trade groups, Competitors

Experience & Educational Requirements

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

(degree, training, or certification required)

MBA/B.E./B. Tech (Any Discipline)/ Any Graduation RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: (no. of years of technical, functional, and/or leadership experience or specific exposure required) 06-10 Years experience in the relevant field
