Opportunity at a Glance

The primary purpose of the uniformed Campus Roving Patrol Officer II is to prevent or eliminate the opportunity, or the belief that the opportunity, for successful criminal conduct exists and to provide immediate and appropriate response to an emergency and to any individual who may need assistance. Close and careful observation is the principal function of every on-campus roving patrol officer. In addition, foot patrols provide valuable interaction between the RUSVM Safety and Security Department and the RUSVM community. This interaction builds trust and understanding between the officers and the members of the RUSVM community. It is the responsibility of each, and every security officer assigned to a foot patrol to act in a manner consistent with his/her position, friendly, courteous, professional, and observant at all times. The Campus Roving Patrol officer II, as part of his/her functions shall receive the necessary training as a back-up Operations Dispatcher. In the in the absence of the Operations Dispatcher, the Campus Roving Patrol officer II under the supervision of the Supervisor shall perform the duties and functions of the Operations Dispatcher. The Campus Roving Patrol Officer II when on duty as a back-up Dispatcher at the Security Operation Center (SOC), shall be responsible for carrying out the essential duties and responsibilities of a Dispatcher as outlined in the job description of the Dispatcher.

Responsibilities

  • Door Checks – Security officers assigned to the Roving Patrol duties during evening, nighttime and weekend hours will conduct door checks on all facilities utilizing the Door Check Procedure.
  • Security Escorts – During evening and nighttime hours, the Roving Patrol Officer will make himself / herself available to conduct Security Escorts for any individual requesting such an escort on campus. Escorts will be provided utilizing the Security Escort Procedure.
  • Radio Communication – The Roving Patrol Officer will be responsible for maintaining proper radio communications with Supervisor, Security Dispatch and fellow security officers to ensure his/her whereabouts are documented and his communication equipment is functional.
  • Respond to emergencies on campus and assist First responders and local authorities if needed. Emergencies may include but is not limited to natural disaster like a hurricane, fire, flooding or any criminal acts.
  • Ensure campus safety and security during lockdown or campus closure for emergencies.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • Determines nature and location of emergency; prioritize; dispatch emergency units as needed and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains communication with assigned units.
  • Determines need to contact local law enforcement agencies and communicate status of emergency calls received from members of the Ross community
  • Must possess Communications & computer skills
  • Write and submit reports.
  • Performs a variety of support functions such as , indexing and record keeping, responsibility for management of lost and found
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • This position is a designated Campus Security Authority.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

  • Secondary School Education with a minimum of four (4) CXC passes Required
  • Previous law enforcement or experience in security Preferred
  • Specialized Knowledge for Performance of Job.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be willing to work on a shift basis including weekends and public holidays. May have to work extra hours during emergencies.
