GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Law Librarian will provide reasonable and meaningful access to the WMCI law library. Instruct inmates on how and where to access the requested information. They will provide information on the availability and use of forms and guide the requesting inmate through the general research process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.

  • Supervising the law library
  • E-filing US District Court of Wyoming and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals documents
  • Copying/printing, notary, updating Policies and Procedures for inmate distribution in the library
  • Providing inmates with legal forms for the court (ie., divorce packets)
  • Logging the inmate's computer daily usage
  • Legal research via the internet on LexisNexis and other legal sites
  • Answering inmate single-page request forms
  • Visiting specialty units, check-in and check-out law library material
  • Responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable workplace, including participation in initiatives designed to promote a positive work environment

Examples of duties

PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to those with a 2-year degree.

Preference may also be given to those with 2 years of work experience with a Library background.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of the organization and management of information and materials services
  • Knowledge of research, indexing, records management, and databases.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of education.
  • Knowledge of mainframe and personal computer systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and policies, technical processes, and procedures related to the department.
  • Knowledge of the principles and procedures of financial record keeping and reporting, basic accounts payable and purchasing.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee supervision, training, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of techniques for providing a high level of customer service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Associate's Degree (typically in Business)

Experience:

0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Business Office Communications) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Office Assistant II

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business Office Communications) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Office Assistant II

Qualifications

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc.
  • Lifting/grasping up to 20 pounds on an occasional to regular basis, without assistance
  • Walking on cement floors on an occasional to regular basis
  • Walking up and down stairs on an occasional basis
  • Stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching on an occasional basis
  • Reaching on a regular basis
  • Typing/Repetitive motion on a frequent basis
  • Talking/hearing on a frequent basis
  • Seeing: the visual ability to perform an activity such as analyzing data and figures, viewing computer terminal, and extensive reading
  • Pre-service and annual in-service training is required, which includes Krav Maga defensive tactics.
