Office Services Assistant - Full Time

Compensation

The estimated pay for this position is $20.4390 to $26.6820 per hour The rates shown include a 6% premium pay (base= $-$ plus 6%). This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses. In addition, this position may be eligible for participation and company contributions into the Kern County Employees’ Retirement Plan.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

This is the entry level in the office services series. The Office Services Assistant is expected to apply a routine amount of initiative and judgment to perform duties utilizing standardized procedures within established policies. It is distinguished from the Office Services Technician, which is responsible for performing a wider variety of clerical support activities requiring previous clerical experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Responds to requests for information from the general public; answers routine questions; directs visitors to appropriate locations.
  • Performs various clerical duties, utilizing standard office equipment, to include: screening incoming calls; taking and transmitting messages; distributing mail; making photocopies; collecting and receipting monies from customers; performing data entry; preparing mass mailings; typing; and word processing.
  • Receives, sorts, and distributes a variety of correspondence, deliveries, and mail.
  • Files documents alphabetically, numerically, or by other prescribed methods.
  • Processes routine paperwork and/or forms.

Other Functions:

  • Performs other duties of similar nature or level as required.

Employment Standards:

High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent; OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skill to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Knowledge of:

Customer service principles; standard office procedures, methods, and equipment; basic filing and recordkeeping principles; basic mathematical concepts; English language, grammar, and punctuation.

Skill in:

Using computers and related software applications; performing routine mathematical calculations; providing customer service; filing; keyboarding; using standard office equipment; and, communicating both orally and in writing sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

A background check may be required for this classification.

If position responsibilities require driving a personal vehicle, then possession of a current valid California Driver’s License and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required.

If position responsibilities require driving a vehicle owned, leased or rented by Kern Medical, then possession of a current valid California Driver’s license, a signed authorization for Release of Drivers Record Information and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required.

Since our beginning in 1867, Kern Medical has served as an integral part of the community. Our 222-licensed bed acute care teaching hospital and outpatient clinics offer many services unavailable to the rest of the community. These services include:

As an academic teaching hospital, we are affiliated with UCLA and its David Geffen School of Medicine, with many of our physicians also holding faculty positions at UCLA. Our physician training ranges from three to five years with residencies in internal medicine, surgery, family practice, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychiatry.
