Job Description

Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) - PRN; as needed

Pay Range: $26.68 - $41.36/hour

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will work closely with the therapy team to help patients develop, recover, and improve the skills needed for daily living and working. Qualifications:

- Education: Graduate of an accredited therapy program

- Experience: 2-3 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

- Current Occupational Therapy Assistant state license; CPR certification.

- Knowledge of occupational therapy principles, treatment techniques, and rehabilitation practices.

- Ability to effectively implement treatment plans under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.

- Ability to accurately observe, document, and report patient progress.

- Knowledge of adaptive equipment, transfer techniques, and therapeutic interventions.

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

- Proficiency in electronic medical records and clinical documentation systems.

Requirements

  • Provide occupational therapy services under the direction and supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
  • Implement individualized treatment plans established by the Occupational Therapist to improve residents' functional abilities, independence, and participation in activities of daily living.
  • Instruct patients in therapeutic exercises, functional activities, mobility techniques, adaptive equipment use, and energy conservation strategies.
  • Assist patients in developing, improving, or restoring daily living skills affected by physical, developmental, cognitive, or emotional impairments.
  • Observe, monitor, and document patients' responses to treatment, progress toward established goals, and any changes in functional status.
  • Communicate patient progress, concerns, and recommendations to the supervising Occupational Therapist to support ongoing treatment planning.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on home exercise programs, adaptive techniques, safety practices, and the proper use of assistive devices.
  • Assist with the selection, setup, and safe use of adaptive equipment, therapeutic devices, and transfer equipment.
  • Ensure patient safety throughout all treatment sessions by following established infection prevention, safety, and rehabilitation protocols.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, payer requirements, and professional practice standards.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, rehabilitation team members, caregivers, and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate quality patient care.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations and all applicable federal, state, and facility policies.
  • Participate in department meetings, required in-service education, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the rehabilitation department and resident care services.
