Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Adult Social Care for an experienced Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to join our client's MEAP Moving & Handling Team in Beswick. This specialist role requires strong technical knowledge in moving & handling, complex equipment, and home adaptations, with a particular focus on enabling independence and safety for adults within the community.

You’ll provide expert assessments, equipment recommendations, and hands‑on training to families and paid carers, ensuring safe and effective moving & handling practice across Manchester.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete complex moving & handling assessments in service users’ homes.
  • Provide expert recommendations for equipment and adaptations, including ceiling track hoists and complex manual handling solutions.
  • Carry out moving & handling risk assessments and develop safe systems of work.
  • Deliver training to family members and paid carers on hoists, slings, handling plans, safe transfers, etc.
  • Contribute to major adaptation designs in collaboration with surveyors, housing teams, and partner agencies.
  • Work closely with health and social care teams, families, and external providers to deliver a cohesive and cost‑effective service.
  • Support citizens to maximise independence, safety, choice, and quality of life.

Essential Requirements (Must Have)

  • Accredited manual handling of people training (e.g., Train the Trainer, Advanced People Handling, or equivalent).
  • Extensive experience in moving & handling, including complex cases.
  • Experience training carers and families in manual handling techniques and equipment.
  • Ability to manage complex equipment (slings, hoists, ceiling track hoists, etc.).
  • Experience completing moving & handling risk assessments in the community.
  • Trusted Assessor Level 4 qualification or equivalent experience in assessing for equipment and major adaptations.
  • Must be able to hit the ground running with no upskilling required.
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Desirable

  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy.
  • Knowledge of complex equipment and major adaptations.
  • Understanding of moving & handling models of practice and interventions.
  • Experience working with people with varied medical conditions.
  • Awareness of relevant Social Care legislation.
  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
