Job Description

Within the context of a patient/client and family-centred framework and continuum-based care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice and the vision, values and policies of the organization, coordinates the designated program offering occupational and psychiatric rehabilitation services and peer support to identified clients which includes supervising staff. Establishes priorities and coordinates work assignments, monitors and evaluates program service outcomes, discusses evaluations and clarifies performance expectations with staff, coordinates staff selection and acts as a clinical resource for members of the team and students and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration. Provides assessment and treatment services including crisis intervention as needed, provides consultative and direct services to clients, families, staff and community health professionals and maintains client records. Maintains budget information, statistical records and reports; coordinates on-going team planning, evaluation and quality improvement activities, participates in approved research and participates in and/or leads internal and external committees, meetings, and/or corporate initiatives. QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).Four (4) years’ recent related clinical experience including two (2) years’ supervisory and administrative experience in the community mental healthcare field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT). Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle for business related purposes. Knowledge & AbilitiesKnowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Therapy theory and practice within a client and family-centred model of care.Broad knowledge of the CHCPBC standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners.Comprehensive knowledge of occupational therapy/psychiatric rehabilitation principles and techniques.Broad knowledge of Recovery philosophy and mental illness, issues and treatments.Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.Broad knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to the client/resident.Demonstrated ability to apply the principles of trauma informed practiceDemonstrated ability to implement the principles of indigenous cultural safetyDemonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem-solve, set priorities and deal with conflict.Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writingAbility to deal effectively with clients/residents and their families, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies.Demonstrated ability to stimulate client’s interest, assess results of programs and work effectively on an individual or group basis.Demonstrated ability to provide effective supervision, leadership, facilitation, guidance, and consultation.Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others in a complex health care environment.Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
