Job Description

Liquid Personnel is recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for its client's Adult Social Care – Equipment & Adaptations Team based in Wigan. This is a full-time locum role offering £31.65 per hour, providing an excellent opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist with community, equipment, and adaptations experience to support adults in maintaining their independence, safety, and wellbeing within their own homes.

Working within Adult Social Care, you will undertake specialist assessments, recommend equipment and adaptations, and develop practical, person-centred solutions that enable adults with varying levels of need to live independently and safely within their communities.

Key responsibilities of the role

  • Complete comprehensive functional and specialist Occupational Therapy assessments for adults in the community.
  • Assess changing and progressive needs, identifying appropriate solutions to promote independence and prevent deterioration or unnecessary care or accommodation.
  • Assess and recommend specialist equipment and major adaptations, ensuring solutions are appropriate to individual needs and circumstances.
  • Complete specialist moving and handling assessments, providing advice to service users, families, carers, and care providers.
  • Assess and manage risk while balancing individual rights, choices, independence, and wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with Social Workers, health colleagues, families, carers, and partner agencies to develop coordinated support and positive outcomes.
  • Support the assessment and review of individuals with complex, multiple, and progressive needs.
  • Contribute to safeguarding activity where required, promoting the wellbeing and protection of adults, children, families, and carers.
  • Maintain accurate case records and produce clear, evidence-based reports in line with statutory and organisational requirements.
  • Manage and prioritise a complex caseload effectively, ensuring assessments and actions are completed within appropriate timescales.
  • Apply relevant legislation and professional standards, including the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding, and moving and handling requirements.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and support to less experienced OTs, students, and other staff where appropriate.

Requirements

  • Must have Occupational Therapy Degree or Diploma.
  • Must have current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working with adults in a community, Adult Social Care, or Local Authority setting.
  • Experience of specialist equipment and major adaptations.
  • Strong experience in moving and handling assessments.
  • Experience working with complex and progressive conditions.
  • Excellent assessment, problem-solving, risk management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multi-agency environment.
  • Ability to travel across the borough and work flexibly between home and office locations.
