Occupational Therapist | Adult Neurological Rehabilitation

Western Melbourne | Wyndham Vale

Full-time | Permanent | $85,000–$110,000 + super | 2+ years’ experience

Not your typical OT role

If neurological rehabilitation is where you want to deepen your clinical expertise, this is an opportunity to join a specialist allied health team where OT is much more than back-to-back appointments.

You’ll work with adults living with neurological conditions, helping them regain function, build independence and participate more fully in everyday life. Your work can move between a fully equipped rehabilitation clinic, a client’s home and the wider community, depending on what will genuinely achieve the best outcome for the person in front of you.

This is a permanent, full-time role within an established neurological rehabilitation service that has built its reputation around clinical support, professional development and a strong team culture.

The caseload

The adult caseload is more than 80% NDIS, with the remainder including some aged care clients who will generally also have a neurological component to their presentation.

The service works with a broad range of neurological conditions, including presentations such as:

• Stroke
• Multiple sclerosis
• Parkinson’s disease
• Dementia
• Cerebral palsy
• Motor neurone disease
• Huntington’s disease
• Cognitive and neurological disorders
• Balance and functional difficulties associated with neurological conditions

Psychosocial presentations are not accepted as the primary diagnosis.

What you’ll actually be doing

Your clinical work may include:

• Comprehensive functional assessments and retraining of everyday activities
• Supporting clients to improve independence with personal care, meal preparation, routines, budgeting and community participation
• Home assessments and modifications to improve safety and independence
• Assistive technology assessment and prescription, from low-risk equipment through to complex wheelchairs and seating
• Cognitive assessment and intervention targeting memory, concentration, problem-solving and functional performance
• Upper-limb and hand rehabilitation
• SDA and SIL assessments in the NDIS space
• Education around energy conservation, work simplification, pain management and chronic condition management
• Supporting families and carers with transfers, lifting and appropriate equipment
• Working alongside a broader multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated neurological rehabilitation

The service has fully equipped rehabilitation clinics with private treatment rooms and large gym areas, while therapists also provide home and community visits. You’ll have the autonomy to organise your own diary around what is most beneficial for each client.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for an OT who can step into an established neurological service and become productive without requiring a graduate-level onboarding program.

You’ll need:

• At least 2 years’ occupational therapy experience
• Full AHPRA registration
• Experience working with NDIS participants and/or people living with neurological disability
• Strong clinical reasoning and functional assessment skills
• Confidence working independently across clinic and community environments
• A genuine interest in neurological rehabilitation
