The Occupational Health (OH) & Industrial Hygiene (IH) Advisor (Americas) provides OH & IH support to the Castrol lubricants business to help meet Health regulatory obligations and improve health risk management across manufacturing, laboratories and offices. The role supports delivery of risk-based health and exposure management programmes, provides practical advice to operations, HSE and functional collaborators, and helps verify that health controls, data, service providers and self verification activities are effective. The role reports to the Castrol Global Health Lead and works in partnership with the wider Castrol health, HSE, HR and business teams.

Role Intent

Provide technical OH and IH expertise to support conformance with Castrol health risk management system and applicable regulatory requirements.

Support delivery of practical, risk-based health programmes for Castrol’s diverse workforce and operating footprint, including plant-based operations, office-based teams and mobile/commercial populations.

Act as a key focal point for day-to-day coordination with contract health service providers and laboratories, helping verify that agreed 3rd party service scope and service expectations are met.

Support the business to identify, assess, monitor and control occupational health risks and workplace exposures, and to promote workforce health and wellbeing

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide practical OH and IH advice to the business to identify, assess and handle workplace health risks, regulatory requirements and exposure controls across operations, projects and contractor activities.
  • Support delivery of risk-based OH and IH programmes, such as fitness for task/work, health surveillance, exposure monitoring, ergonomics, fatigue, travel health, infection prevention and other relevant workforce health initiatives.
  • Contribute to investigation of occupational illnesses, health or exposure incidents and related causal factors, and help drive practical corrective actions with operations and HSE.
  • Conduct or support site visits, reviews and self-verification activities to supervise OH/IH compliance, programme effectiveness and conformance with company standards.
  • Maintain, interpret and report OH/IH data, metrics and recommendations, ensuring appropriate management of confidentiality, health records and sensitive health data.
  • Support development of OH/IH procedures, guidance and training, and build line and HSE capability to embed practical health risk management in day-to-day operations.
  • Provide OH/IH input to emergency response, contractor and service provider oversight, and work across HSE, HR, legal, procurement and external partners to support effective programme delivery.
  • Participate in relevant professional networks and communities of practice to share learning and bring applicable good practice into Castrol.

Customer Engagement

  • Work closely with Local and Global HSE&C teams, Site Managers, internal and customers, regulatory authorities, and subject matter experts.

Professional Qualifications

  • Relevant degree or professional qualification in occupational health (e.g. certified occupational health nurse), industrial hygiene (e.g. CIH), nursing, medicine, or a related health field.
  • Working towards, or holding, a recognised OH or IH professional qualification is desirable (for example occupational health certificate/diploma/degree, CIH, or an internationally recognised IH qualification

Experience

  • At least 5 years’ proven experience in occupational health, industrial hygiene, or occupational/worker health risk management in an industrial, manufacturing or comparable operational environment.
  • Candidates may come from an OH, IH or related health professional background, provided they can demonstrate strong capability in workplace health risk management and willingness to build depth in the complementary rigor.

Skills & Proficiencies

  • Sound understanding of health hazard identification, health risk assessment and workplace exposure assessment.
  • Ability to interpret data, exercise professional judgement and recommend pragmatic, risk-based actions within an established framework.
  • Customer engagement and influencing skills across multidisciplinary and culturally diverse teams.
  • Personal integrity and strong commitment to confidentiality, ethics and protection of health data.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, strong organisation and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Practical appreciation of regional complexity, varying regulatory environments and third-party/distributor operating models relevant to Castrol.
