Job Description

Occupational Health Advisor

Deliver Specialist Occupational Health Support

Tetra Tech is seeking an experienced Occupational Health Advisor with rail sector experience to deliver high-quality occupational health services for clients across London.

Purpose and Scope of the Role

This permanent role will support clients operating in the rail environment, providing proactive occupational health advice, case management, health surveillance, health screening and health promotion. You will work closely with employees, managers, client stakeholders and the wider clinical team to help maintain safe, healthy and compliant workplaces.

As part of a multidisciplinary occupational health team of nurses, doctors, technicians and advisors, you will deliver consultations covering fitness for work, absence management, workplace adjustments and employee assistance programmes. The team is committed to quality over volume, with case management assessments limited to six per day to support manageable workloads, strong clinical standards and effective outcomes.

Your Impact in this Position

From the outset, you will help clients manage health risks within safety-critical rail settings, supporting informed decisions around fitness for work, attendance and employee wellbeing. Your advice will contribute directly to safe operations, legal compliance and positive workforce outcomes.

Over time, you will build trusted relationships with rail clients, support preventative health initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement in service delivery. You will be part of a collaborative culture built on trust, respect and shared success, with ongoing support for CPD and maintaining NMC registration.

Core Capabilities

Rail Occupational Health Expertise
• Apply occupational health experience within rail or safety-critical environments, understanding the importance of fitness for work, health surveillance, compliance and timely clinical advice.

Case Management and Clinical Advice
• Deliver clear, balanced and evidence-based guidance on absence management, workplace adjustments, rehabilitation and employee support, considering both wellbeing and operational requirements.

Health Surveillance and Screening
• Undertake and coordinate occupational health screening activity, including audiometry, spirometry and skin management, to help prevent adverse health effects from workplace exposures.

Stakeholder Communication
• Build effective relationships with employees, managers and client representatives, communicating with empathy, confidence and professionalism in a fast-paced operational setting.

Organisation and Professional Standards
• Manage appointments, records, reports and follow-up actions accurately, maintaining confidentiality, clinical governance and compliance with relevant legislation and procedures.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

You will be a Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration and a post-registration qualification in Occupational Health at certificate, diploma or degree level. Experience delivering occupational health services within the rail sector is required.

You should bring strong case management experience, knowledge of health surveillance and screening procedures, confident IT skills including Microsoft Office, and the ability to work collaboratively while leading by example. A current UK driving licence is desirable.

Work Pattern and Location

This is a permanent, site-based role supporting rail clients in London. Travel between client locations may be required. Working arrangements will reflect client and service needs, with flexibility discussed where appropriate. #LI-SY1 #OccupationalHealth
