Job Description

ABOUT US

We’re the world’s leading provider of secure financial messaging services, headquartered in Belgium. We are the way the world moves value – across borders, through cities and overseas. No other organisation can address the scale, precision, pace and trust that this demands, and we’re proud to support the global economy.

We’re unique too. We were established to find a better way for the global financial community to move value – a reliable, safe and secure approach that the community can trust, completely. We’re always striving to be better and are constantly evolving in an ever-changing landscape, without undermining that trust. Five decades on, our vibrant community reflects the complexity and diversity of the financial ecosystem. We innovate diligently, test exhaustively, then implement fast. In a connected and exciting era, our mission has never been more relevant. Swift now has a presence in 200+ countries and legal territories to serve a community of more than 12,000 banks and financial institutions.

In line with team objectives, policies and procedures and under guidance of a more senior team member, to design, develop specifications, code, install, test and maintain high quality application software and associated tools.

As we continue to scale our Observability Platform and Practice, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Observability Software Engineer. You will contribute to the development and enhancement of our observability platform, working alongside experienced engineers to build tooling, automate processes, and improve monitoring capabilities.

You will be onboarding application logs onto our Elastic Stack platform as part of the Oasis UX team within Swift, building and refining log parsers and pipelines to enrich and aggregate data, and delivering meaningful insights through well-crafted Kibana dashboards. Your software engineering expertise in Java and Python will be critical in developing tooling, automation, and integrations that elevate the quality and coverage of our observability practice.

You will also take part in CI/CD pipeline development and maintenance. Your contributions will ensure that observability solutions are delivered with speed, reliability, and performance at scale — enabling engineering teams across the organization to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize their applications with confidence.

Education
University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent.

Experience
3+ years in software development with strong proficiency in Java or Python.
Exposure to log management, data pipelines, or observability platforms (e.g., Elastic Stack, Splunk, Datadog, Grafana, or equivalent) is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

Observability Platform Engineering

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the software components and automation tools in Java and Python to support observability platform capabilities and integrations.
  • Assist the onboarding of application logs onto the observability platform, working closely with application teams to define logging standards, structured log formats, and ingestion pipelines.
  • Contribute to the development of log parsers and ingestion pipelines.
  • Contribute to the development of Kibana dashboards and analyst-friendly visualisations;
  • Assist in implementing alerting rules and anomaly detection to support operational and business needs.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and scheduled weekend deployments as required.

DevOps & CI/CD

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines (build, test, package, security scan, deploy, rollback) for observability platform components and content (dashboards, index templates, alert rules).
  • Apply infrastructure-as-code practices using tools such as Ansible, Docker, and Kubernetes for consistent, repeatable deployments.

What Will Make You Successful

  • Strong software development skills in Java or Python, with a solid understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles.
  • Familiarity with DevOps CI/CD tooling such as Cloudbees, Jenkins, Kubernetes, Ansible, Docker, or OpenShift.
  • Familiarity with relational databases (e.g. Oracle, MySQL), NoSQL databases, or Elasticsearch
  • Familiarity with various OS platforms including Windows and Linux.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-centric mindset and ability to work across cultural diversity and time zones.

The Following Experience Will Give Candidates an Added Advantage

  • Good understanding of observability concepts — logs, metrics, traces, APM and practical experience implementing alerting strategies.
  • Good understanding of big data or streaming technologies such as Kafka or other message queue systems will be a strong advantage.
  • Exposure with Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Beats/Elastic Agent) including cluster internals — shards, replicas, ILM, index patterns, snapshots, and query tuning will be a strong advantage.
  • Exposure to OpenTelemetry such as OTEL or other distributed tracing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with SOA and API technologies — microservices, REST, SOAP.
  • Experience in a regulated or financial services environment.

Required Skills
