Job Description

The University of Chicago's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is searching for full-time OBGYN Hospitalist faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor. Appointees will be members of the obstetrics and gynecology call group and will contribute to patient care, medical education, and scholarship, including teaching and supervision of trainees and medical students. Appointees will be mostly responsible for inpatient clinical care at our Hyde Park campus. They will belong to the Section of General Obstetrics & Gynecology and will collaborate with affiliated midwives, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Neonatology, Anesthesiology providers and physicians from Sections of Complex Gynecologic Surgery, Comprehensive Gynecology, and Gynecologic Oncology.

Appointees will join a vibrant and distinguished community of faculty colleagues and learners in UChicago Medicine, the Biological Sciences Division, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and the University of Chicago and its affiliates. The University of Chicago Family Birth Center is a high-complexity, high-acuity unit with a Level III NICU, and OB Emergency Department with an in-house OB hospitalist model (most of the time, 2 physicians in-house 24/7). We deliver over 2,800 babies annually. The OB shifts are either 12 or 24 hours. Additionally, the University of Chicago’s inpatient Gynecology Hospitalist Service covers weekdays in-house and night calls from home with the expectation of coming in for emergency Gynecology surgeries.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, and 3) be Board certified or eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

We especially welcome applicants with training and experience in gynecologic surgery, inpatient obstetrics (vaginal delivery of twins, higher-order cesarean sections, and operative vaginal deliveries), and experience in resident and/or medical student teaching. Candidates that prefer to focus on Obstetrics or Gynecology only will also be considered.
