Summary:

Follow in labor, and deliver maternal transport patients, in consultation with perinatology. Provide surgical assistance as needed on the Family Birthing Center. Provides emergency back up care to patients on the obstetrical service; Cares for unassigned OB patients requiring evaluation and hospital care, including delivery. Cares for unassigned GYN patients requiring hospital care. Makes all professional medical judgments in care of patients seen

Job Description:

  • First assist C-sections.
  • Covers unattended deliveries by other physicians/CNMs when they are unavailable.
  • Provide OB Emergency backup.
  • Care for unassigned OB patients.
  • Care for unassigned GYN patients.
  • Multi-disciplinary board rounds @ 0700 with Charge RN, Anesthesia, PANM.
  • Work with Charge Nurse/Triage Nurse to prioritize inductions, help with throughput of patients as needed.
  • Review fetal heart rate strips/mentor nurses/chain of communication/command.
  • Assist with operative vaginal deliveries as needed.
  • Makes all professional medical judgments in the care of patients seen.
  • Manages and oversees the physician/patient relationship.
  • Participates in system-wide health management initiatives.
  • Receives and resolves patient complaints.
  • Participates in the recruitment and replacement of other providers.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, literature review, in-services, and workshops.
  • Oversees and is accountable for the overall quality of care and clinical outcomes within the assigned facilities.
  • Attend and participate in all regularly scheduled OB hospitalist meetings.
  • Attend and participate in requested QI and Peer Review.
  • Maintain coding and encounter data standards for completeness, accuracy, timeliness and reimbursement level, including legible documentation.
  • Meet and maintain all provider credentialing and QI standards.
  • Participate in the development, adoption, and implementation process for clinical standards for inpatient care.
  • Knowledgeable of NICHD nomenclature for electronic fetal monitoring (EFM).
  • Work with Medical Director to assure proper provider staffing, including vacation coverage.
  • Completion of medical records in a timely fashion.

Additional Job Description:

MD/DO Board-eligible or certified in OB/GYN with State of New Mexico Medical License.
