OB technician working within Labor and Delivery departments at Saint Luke’s Health System, assists the nurses and providers during vaginal and Cesarean births. Their primary function is to assist with surgical procedures, including, but not limited to Cesarean Sections, tubal ligations, and hysterectomies. Tech’s are responsible for monitoring and maintaining sterility during the procedure. The OB Tech also attends vaginal deliveries to assist the nurses and provider with instruments and supplies. Maintaining and stocking supplies and equipment used for deliveries is the Tech’s responsibility. OB Tech’s provides care under the direction and supervision of an RN.
The OB tech will float between metro entities to meet staffing needs of SLH, SLE, and SLN.
Maintain stock of sterilized instrument trays for vaginal and C/Section births
Open instrument sets for each delivery and count instruments and supplies with an RN
Maintain the Maternity OR to be ready for emergent C/Sections
Maintain supplies and equipment used for vaginal and C/Section deliveries
Maintain sterile technique and pass instruments to the providers during procedures
Anticipate the needs of the provider and have provider “preferences” ready at each delivery
Stock the OR and patient rooms, so they are always prepared for deliveries
Stock nursery procedure room and assist with circumcisions, as needed
General stocking of unit, as directed
Spray dirty instruments with enzymatic cleaner, place in closed Biohazard containers and transport to the dirty instrument cart.
Transport the dirty instrument cart to Sterile Processing as needed
Transport placenta to pathology and place in formalin
Dock, empty, and quick wash the Neptune daily, when used
Dock, empty, and extend clean the Neptune weekly
This is a Full-time Night position.
