Job Title: OB Scrub Technician
Location: White Plains, New York
Schedule: Full-Time | Night Shift | 6:00 PM–6:30 AM
Work Days: Monday–Friday | Alternating Weekends and Holidays
Pay Range: $37.60–$56.40 per hour
Hours Per Pay Period: 75

A healthcare organization in White Plains, New York, is seeking an OB Scrub Technician to support surgical procedures within the Labor & Delivery department.

Working under the direction of nursing leadership and Registered Nurses, the OB Scrub Technician will prepare and handle instruments, supplies, and equipment during operative procedures, maintain sterile technique, anticipate surgeon needs, and support safe, efficient patient care.

This role requires strong knowledge of surgical asepsis, instrumentation, and operative workflow. Prior Surgical Technologist experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare instruments, supplies, and equipment before surgical procedures
  • Scrub, set up, and assist intraoperatively
  • Anticipate surgeon and procedural needs throughout each case
  • Maintain strict sterile technique at all times
  • Perform instrument, sponge, and supply counts according to established protocols
  • Assist with preparation and picking of operating room cases
  • Collect and properly label cord blood gas specimens during deliveries
  • Assist surgeons and Registered Nurses with post-procedure care
  • Handle and label specimens according to established standards
  • Prepare instruments for decontamination and reprocessing
  • Identify and report malfunctioning equipment
  • Follow infection-prevention, fire-safety, and patient-safety standards
  • Respond appropriately during emergency situations
  • Complete required competencies and mandatory in-services
  • Maintain required continuing education
  • Support efficient use of supplies and cost-containment practices
  • Perform other related surgical and Labor & Delivery responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
  • Meets New York State requirements to practice as a Surgical Technologist through one of the following pathways:
    • Graduate of a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited Surgical Technology program with current CST certification, or
    • Completion of an eligible military Surgical Technology program, or
    • Meets applicable New York State grandfathering requirements, or
    • Qualified through applicable federal-service provisions
  • Certification through a nationally accredited Surgical Technologist credentialing organization, such as Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), when required under the applicable pathway
  • Strong knowledge of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation
  • Ability to work effectively in high-acuity and emergency situations
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills

Preferred

  • Previous Surgical Technologist experience
  • Previous OB, Labor & Delivery, or cesarean-section surgical experience
  • Experience working in a hospital-based operating room
  • Familiarity with specimen handling and cord blood gas collection

Continuing Education

The OB Scrub Technician is responsible for maintaining required continuing-education credits and competencies in accordance with New York State requirements and organizational policy.
