The Graduation Coach will collaborate closely with school counselors, teachers, administrators, students, and families to identify students who may be at risk of not graduating and develop individualized strategies to support their successful completion of high school.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain student progress-monitoring tools, spreadsheets, and tracking systems to document academic performance, graduation readiness, and intervention efforts.
  • Collaborate with school counselors, teachers, and administrators to identify academic concerns and coordinate appropriate interventions and support services.
  • Meet regularly with identified students to review academic progress, establish goals, address challenges, and develop actionable plans toward graduation.
  • Communicate with families, as appropriate, regarding student progress, graduation requirements, and available academic supports.
  • Monitor student attendance, engagement, and academic performance to identify potential barriers to successful course completion.
  • Assist students in understanding Virginia high school graduation requirements, including credit and diploma requirements.
  • Provide regular progress updates and reports to school administration and counseling staff, highlighting student needs, intervention outcomes, and progress toward graduation.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with APS policies and applicable student privacy requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support student achievement and graduation outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, student services, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with high school students, particularly students who may be at risk of not graduating.
  • Knowledge of Virginia high school graduation requirements, diploma options, and credit accumulation.
  • Experience using student information systems, preferably Synergy, to access and monitor student academic records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Google Drive, and spreadsheets for data tracking, analysis, and reporting.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with school staff, students, and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple student cases, and follow through on identified interventions.

Compensation and Work Schedule

  • This is an hourly, as-needed position compensated at $60.00 per hour.
  • Work hours will be flexible and coordinated with school administration to accommodate student schedules and program needs. The position may require daytime, evening, and occasional weekend availability.
  • The number of hours worked will be determined by student needs and approved by school administration.
