The North West Regional Organised Crime Unit is a collaborative multi agency covert response to tackle serious and organised crime across the North West Region.
As the Western Balkans Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening the regional response to serious and organised crime, working across forces, partners, and communities to drive prevention, disruption and safeguarding activity. Based within NWROCU and funded through the national Western Balkans Programme, you will support 4P delivery, Clear Hold Build initiatives, and innovative multi-agency approaches to reduce harm, tackle criminal exploitation, and build community resilience. This is a unique opportunity for a Sergeant or Detective Sergeant with experience in organised crime and partnership working to influence regional and national priorities while helping make communities safer.
Essential criteria are that candidate must have sound investigative ability and be PIP Level 2 accredited and have experience in either an investigative or intelligence function.
The NWROCU leads the policing response across the region posed by serious and organised crime in Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and North Wales. The NWROCU provides the vital link from national capabilities and expertise to local policing and knowledge, enabling the North West region to deliver the Government’s serious and organised Crime strategy and to protect communities from harm.
The secondment is subject to continued funding, the post currently has funding confirmed until 31 March 2027 and we await confirmation as to further funding beyond that date.
Further developments in NWROCU’s capabilities are anticipated in the future. Applications received for Operational roles that require mandatory Officer Safety/First Aid training must hold valid in date training or able to undertake upon application.

Successful applicants working within NWROCU will be subject to MV (Management Vetting) and SC (Security Clearance) prior to taking up post.
In cases where the commute to work is in excess of applicant’s current commute the excess travel will be paid.
This role can be agile and be held at any ROCU site around the region with irregular trips to Warrington required. The role is working with the National Western Balkan Portfolio and as such there will be requirement to attend infrequent national meetings with over night stays.
