Job Description

This post is open to substantive Sergeants and Sergeants who are suitably qualified and supported for temporary promotion to either Acting or Temporary Detective Inspector, depending on qualifications.

The North West Regional Organised Crime Unit is a collaborative multi agency covert response to tackle serious and organised crime across the North West Region.

This is an exciting opportunity for an Inspector to join the Intelligence and Harm Reduction portfolio at North West Organised Crime Unit working in a challenging but rewarding environment to enhance law enforcement response to serious organised criminality. The objective of the role is to promote and sustain close working relationships within NWROCU capabilities; ensure that the 6 constituent Forces have access to the deployment of specialist capability when needed whilst recording and reflecting relevant demand appropriately.

This opportunity is open to Sergeants who are suitably qualified and supported for temporary promotion to either Acting or Temporary Detective Inspector, depending on qualifications.

The applicant should have an understanding of covert policing tactics, must have a proven track record in managing threat, harm, risk preferably with experience of working in a multi-agency environment where they have removed unnecessary barriers to improve service delivery to achieve law enforcement outcomes.

The NWROCU leads the policing response across the region posed by serious and organised crime in Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and North Wales. The NWROCU provides the vital link from national capabilities and expertise to local policing and knowledge, enabling the North West region to deliver the Government’s serious and organised Crime strategy and to protect communities from harm.

The post is subject to an initial secondment of two years reviewable based on continuous funding and performance - if appointed on temporary promotion continuation in role will be subject to annual review.

Further developments in NWROCU’s capabilities are anticipated in the future. Applications received for Operational roles that require mandatory Officer Safety/First Aid training must hold valid in date training or able to undertake upon application.

Successful applicants working within NWROCU will be subject to MV (Management Vetting) and SC (Security Clearance) prior to taking up post.
