Position Summary

This is a 13-week temp/seasonal position

The Nutrition Assistant Educator supports the nutrition component of the Early Head Start program by assisting with the planning, coordination, documentation, and delivery of staff, providers, and parents' training/workshops. Supports planning nutritious meals and snacks for enrolled children during group training, site visits, and events. The Nutrition Assistant helps ensure that food services comply with program requirements, food safety standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The position works closely with nutritionist program consultant, staff, families, food service providers, and other team members to promote healthy eating habits and support the nutritional needs of infants, toddlers, pregnant women, and families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with coordinating and monitoring the delivery and distribution of meals, snacks, infant formula, and other approved nutritional supplies.
• Monitor food and nutrition supplies to help ensure adequate inventory is maintained.
• Assist with ordering, receiving, organizing, and storing snacks and nutrition supplies.
• Maintain accurate records of food orders, deliveries, inventory, distribution, and related documentation.
• Assist in monitoring expiration dates and proper storage temperatures and conditions.
• Support the implementation of menus that meet applicable Early Head Start nutrition requirements and program standards.
• Support culturally appropriate and family-centered nutrition education workshops.
• Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, caregivers, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Assist with identifying and documenting children's food allergies, sensitivities, and special dietary needs.
• Communicate with appropriate program staff regarding children's nutritional needs and dietary accommodations.
• Assist with maintaining records related to special diets and required medical or parent documentation.
• Support nutrition education activities for children and families.
• Assist with parent workshops, nutrition activities, and family engagement events related to healthy eating and wellness.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, Home Visitors, Family Child Care providers, and other program staff to address nutrition-related needs, and work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Conduct or assist with monitoring visits to ensure nutrition practices are implemented appropriately.
• Maintain confidentiality of children's and families' information.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, professional development, and program activities as required.
• Assist with preparation for monitoring reviews, audits, and program assessments.
• Must have a reliable car/transportation
• Perform other duties related to the nutrition component of the program as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Education

• BA or 3-5 years of experience in Nutrition, Public Health, Dietetics, Early Childhood Education, Culinary Arts, Food Service Management, or a related field.
• Knowledge of basic nutrition, food safety, sanitation, and safe food-handling practices.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
• Ability to work effectively with families and staff from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred (verbal, written)

Key Competencies

• Competent in Microsoft Office tools and inputting services in an online database.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout program facilities.
• Ability to lift and carry food, supplies, and materials as required.
• Reliable transportation. Ability to travel to program sites and community locations when necessary.
• Schedule may be flexible and may include some evenings and weekends.
