Job Description

Sets up and breaks down catering functions within Children’s Hospital, ensuring appropriate set-up of conference rooms. Obtains food from various locations, prepares and delivers carts with necessary food and non-food items, maintains catering equipment, and works in other Nutrition Services positions (e.g., cafeteria attendant) as necessary.

Essential Functions:

  • Reviews a catering worksheet on a daily basis to identify functions; verifies scheduling of conference rooms with Education and Executive Director’s secretary; sets up conference rooms and confers with the individual responsible for the function regarding the room set-up; contacts Environmental Services regarding problems with cleaning or table and chair set-up.
  • Identifies food and non-food items required for each function; obtains necessary items from a variety of sources/locations (e.g., cooks, special receiving) and prepares cart with all necessary supplies.
  • Delivers cart to correct location; maintains contact with Nutrition Services through the use of a pager to determine priority changes and alerts supervisor to problems. Serves food banquet style and/or serves desserts and beverages as needed. Returns to room after function to collect equipment and clean room.
  • Maintains catering equipment: checks condition of equipment and notifies supervisor of problems; reports items missing after a catering function; maintains targeted levels of supplies in various areas throughout the hospital; suggests need for additional equipment; maintains cleanliness and orderliness of catering storeroom.
  • Serves as back-up in other Nutrition Services positions (e.g., cafeteria attendant, cashier, cook, dishroom attendant), as needed.


Education Requirement:

High school diploma or equivalent, required.


Licensure Requirement:

Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy and position-specific requirements. Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.


Skills:

  • Organizational skills required to schedule workload to set up multiple functions within required timeframes.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to respond to sudden changes in work schedule and maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Effective interpersonal skills required in interactions with hospital administration, other Nutrition Services personnel, other hospital employees, and the public.
  • Ability to operate van with lift gate.


Experience:

Three months experience in food service or other service-oriented field, required.
