This position supervises the daily activities of the Nutrition Care Services department by coordinating in-services and ongoing education, monitoring quality control and safety processes, hiring and training new staff, evaluating performance and scheduling work shifts. This position is not responsible for providing patient care.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Supervises the daily operations of the department including the interviewing and hiring staff, assigning work, evaluating performance, training, planning work schedules and recommending pay increases.
  • Resolves problems, provides support and expedites service to hospital departments.
  • Monitors the department's safety and quality assurance functions and inspects procedures for completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintains departmental records and prepares monthly reports.
  • Monitors, orders and maintains stock of department supplies and equipment.
  • Participates on hospital committees and in meetings.
  • Enforces the department's written standards of practice, policies and procedures, and initiates corrective action as necessary.
  • Evaluates job performance to ensure that standards are being maintained.
  • May perform other duties of the department, as required.
  • May assist in budget preparation.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holiday shifts.
  • Ability to quickly learn new procedures and processes.
  • Able to prioritize and multi task in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to develop relationships with patients, guests, and coworkers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAA regulations, ensuring that patient information is guarded and respected.

Qualifications

Required

  • Three years of experience in a related area, or equivalency, with one of those years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Food Protection Manager Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Licenses Required

  • Current Food Protection Manager certification, accredited by ANSI.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • Experience working in a high-volume cafeteria or food service environment, providing efficient and courteous service to patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Strong experience with cash handling, including operating POS systems, processing cash and card transactions, making change accurately, and maintaining proper cash accountability.
  • Basic cooking experience with the ability to prepare and serve a variety of foods while following established recipes and food safety standards.
  • Comfortable working with grills, fryers, and small kitchen equipment in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in word processing.
  • Comfortable addressing employee relations matters, including listening to employee concerns, documenting workplace issues, and appropriately communicating or escalating concerns to management and Human Resources.
  • Experienced in handling workplace problems professionally, maintaining confidentiality, accurate documentation, and appropriate follow-up in accordance with company policies.
  • Able to maintain cleanliness and organization of food preparation and service areas in accordance with hospital sanitation and food safety requirements
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team while maintaining a professional, respectful, and customer-service-focused attitude.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities, and maintaining a positive and professional workplace.
  • Knowledge of proper food handling, temperature control, sanitation, and infection-control practices is a plus.

  • This position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting that may exert up to 50 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, while providing patient care.
