SCHEDULING:
* Schedules appointments for services at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics or other off-site referrals as indicated by physician orders.
* Prepares the needed documentation and materials for pre-review by off-site clinics.
* Notifies and coordinates with other departments regarding appointments, either verbally and/or in writing.
* Notifies and coordinates with security of any last-minute trip changes via e-mail or verbally depending on how soon trip is.
* Updates and maintains UIHC Admissions Database Appointment calendar, Health Services trip calendar, and ICON Medical schedule.
* Notifies upcoming I/Is who are releasing of upcoming scheduled off-site appointments to clarify if they will be keeping this appointment and attending or if they want to cancel this appointment.
Update the off-site clinic if a cancellation is requested.
* Review incoming I/Is transferring to FDCF to schedule upcoming off-site appointments or trips as needed.
* Upload referrals to UIHC CareLink database.

PHARMACY/MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION:
* Ensure proper medication administration and documentation.
* Clean medication carts.
* Deliver medication to units as needed.
* Process the daily pharmacy tote
* Order pharmacy provisional stock weekly.

DAILY TASKS:
* Obtain patient vital signs as directed (Temperature, Pulse, Pulse Oximetry, Blood pressure, Respirations, WPFs, Height, Weight).
* Issue Hemoccult cards and instructions.
* Documents in medical records according to DOC standards.
* Answer phone calls and direct to appropriate staff.
* Attend training, in-service and meetings as directed.
* May perform housekeeping tasks to maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the health services area.
* Any other duties as assigned.

RECORD KEEPING/FILING & CERTIFICATIONS:
* File and/or scan medical documents into the medical record.
* Request/Contact local hospital and specialty clinic medical records for dictated notes from offsite appointment.
* Complete and maintain CPR/First Aid.
* Complete and maintain mandatory reporter certification (Adult & Child).
* Complete and maintain IDOC Medication Administration Course or approved Iowa CMA Course.

Qualifications

The equivalent of two years of full-time clerical work experience involving the use of medical terminology;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of one year of full-time work experience as a Resident Treatment Worker, Pharmacy Assistant or a position providing nursing care or clerical work in a state institution providing medical services shall be considered qualified.
