Nursing Unit Aides / Nursing Assistants play a vital role for the Louisiana Department of Health in the Behavioral Health community by utilizing CLSH’s values and mission to deliver quality and effective care to our patients. The hospital is highly committed to cooperative work with other state agencies and with the state and regional mental health program to ensure the integration and coordination of hospital-community services into a comprehensive system of mental health care.

Central Louisiana State Hospital located in Pineville, Louisiana, is seeking applicants for a vacant position in our Nursing Department as a Nursing Unit Aide / Nursing Assistant 1-2(Night Shift) who assists to create and maintain a therapeutic environment for mentally ill and/or substance abuse patients which includes performing routine nursing duties such as taking vital signs, weighing patients, and tending to patient needs.

Positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid or Medicare funds require that applicants possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.

Job Duties:

  • Maintains accountability of patients and awareness of patients’ whereabouts at all times, reporting and documenting appropriately during assigned 12-hour shift.
  • Assists in management of aggressive behavior, utilizing therapeutic intervention techniques. Utilizes safety interventions to apply physical restraints.
  • According to hospital policy, observes, provides care, reports and documents patients’ special precautions.
  • Interacts with patients as a therapeutic function. Observes and reports condition of patients to professional staff.
  • Conducts and facilitates groups in therapeutic activities such as unit meetings and work or activity therapies. Supervises patients engaged in planned daily activities.
  • In accordance with policy, communicates pertinent information regarding patients, employees, visitors, unit personnel, etc. to supervisors or other authorized persons.
  • Participates in shift change report and attends patient staffing conferences and treatment team meetings
  • Performs routine nursing duties such as taking vital signs, weighing patients, collecting and labeling urine and lab specimens or drug screens.
  • Documents on patients’ charts concerning behavioral observations, vital signs, symptoms, accidents, injuries, etc.
  • Assists or performs all other paraprofessional nursing duties for provision of patient care.

Career Progression This position may be filled as a Nursing Unit Aide, Nursing Assistant 1, or Nursing Assistant 2.

Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER)

Nursing Unit Aide - $972.00 bi-weekly

Nursing Assistant 1 - $1,099.20 bi-weekly

Nursing Assistant 2 - $1,176.00 bi-weekly

Position is eligible for premium pay of $1.50 per hour

Position is eligible for premium pay of $1.50 per hour and Longevity pay starting at $1.00 per hour. Also eligible for $1.00 per hour for current CNA certification.

Schedule: Rotating 12-hour Night Shift
