Job Description

Reports to: Nursing Director

FLSA Classification: Full-time, Exempt, Salary $100,00.00 - $107,120.00

Pioneers Medical Center will lead the effort to improve the health and wellbeing of our community. The working environment is a hospital setting with exposure to patients, residents, and families; sharps, infectious diseases, biological and chemical hazards; machinery and equipment; and potentially extreme temperatures and noise levels. Employees are required to follow all safety practices and protocols at all times.

Essential Functions

- Promote and restore patients’ health by developing day-to-day management and long-term planning of patient care areas.

- Recommend staff for hire. Onboard, direct, mentor, develop, and schedule staff, including communicating job expectations and providing performance reviews.

- Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staff to implement patient care.

- Provide physical and psychological support for patients and their friends and family.

- Meet nursing operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer service standards; resolving problems; and identifying system improvements.

- Provide input on annual budget. Monitor expenditures, perform research on possible investments in equipment or additional staffing, and identify variance in departmental costs. - Identify patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.

- Maintain nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.

- Assure quality of care by developing and interpreting hospital and nursing division’s philosophies and standards of care, enforcing adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements, and to other governing agency regulations, measuring health outcomes against standards, and making or recommending adjustments.

- Complete patient care requirements by scheduling and assigning nursing and staff and following up on work results.

- Promote patients’ independence by establishing and patient care goals, teaching and counseling patients, friends, and family to reinforce their understanding of disease, medications and self care skills.

- Provide information to patients and health care team by answering questions and requests. - Resolve patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.

- Maintain safe and clean working environment by designing and implementing procedures, rules, and regulations, and by calling for assistance from other health care professionals. - Protect patients and employees by developing and interpreting infection control policies and protocols, and by enforcing medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substances.

- Maintains patient confidence and protect operations by monitoring confidential information processing.

- Maintain documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records.

- Ensure operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability, completing preventative maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, requesting repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.

- Maintain nursing supplies inventory by studying usage reports, identifying trends, anticipating needed supplies, and approving requisitions and cost allocations. - Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.

- Maintain a cooperative relationship among healthcare teams by communicating information, responding to requests, and participating in team problem solving methods.

- Understand and adhere to quality metrics; ensure department staff understand and participate in quality improvement efforts, measurements, and implementation.

- Assure the department’s compliance with all regulatory statues, standards, issues, agencies, and accrediting bodies.

- Maintain accurate department records and statistics.

- Actively participate in committees and meetings as requested.

- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

- Current, unencumbered Colorado RN license required.

- BLS and ACLS required within three (3) months of transfer or hire.

About Pioneers Medical Center

Pioneers' history began in 1947 when Freeman Fairfield, a previous resident of this community, approached the County Commissioners about establishing a hospital. Over the next several years, Mr. Fairfield worked with the Commissioners and a group of local citizens to build a hospital for the Meeker community. Opening its doors in 1950, Pioneers began offering acute health care and surgical services to the community, licensed through the State of Colorado Department of Health and Human Services. We are Medicare and Medicaid-certified, accept private insurance, and, of course, self-pay. Financial arrangements may be set up through the Business Office.

In 1964, the Walbridge Memorial Convalescent Wing opened its doors for long-term care, made possible through the generosity of the wills of Carl and Adelaide Walbridge. Attached to the north side of the hospital, the Wing, with its 33 beds, brings skilled and intermediate nursing to residents who are unable to care for themselves. Through the Wing's rehabilitation services, exercise, and activity groups, each resident's care is individualized to meet his or her physical, emotional, nutritional, and spiritual needs. The Wing is licensed by the State of Colorado Department of Health and Human Services, and accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and private-pay residents.

First-line health care services are delivered through Meeker Family Health Center. The MFHC originated in 1990 as a rural health clinic, and its physicians, nurse practitioners, and staff continue to strive to meet our community's and visitors' healthcare needs.
