The Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator is a staff position with teaching responsibilities that assists with clinical learning lab facilities and simulation lab activities in the Nursing Department. This position works collaboratively with the nursing faculty and assists the department with daily nursing simulation laboratory operations and with incorporating technology throughout the curriculum. The Simulation Lab Coordinator is expected to serve as a role model, demonstrating professional behavior in communication, customer service, collaboration, and attendance. The successful candidate must be willing to adhere to policies and procedures regarding students and faculty as established by the University and Department.

The Coordinator collaborates with faculty to meet the educational needs of students from a diverse urban population, develops and implements simulation activities according to INACSL standards, and evaluates student performance in simulation. The position supports the Department of Nursing in maintaining high-quality, safe, and well-organized simulation and skills learning environments.

Responsibilities

Teaching

Plans and teaches simulation in coordination with course faculty to meet course objectives and outcomes and the program's mission, objectives, and curriculum. Designs, implements, and evaluates simulation activities in collaboration with faculty and in accordance with INACSL standards. Evaluates student performance in simulation and provides remediation as needed. Develops and maintains course notebooks documenting specific simulation lab activities (stored electronically). May assist with lab skills and other related functions that support the Department of Nursing. Participates in academic advising and guidance of students and is sensitive to the educational needs of students from a diverse population. Conducts student assessments and evaluates student achievement. Orients, mentors, and monitors affiliate faculty working in simulation. Depending on summer programming needs, this position may be asked to teach one summer course as assigned by the Department Chair. Teaching responsibilities comprise approximately 50% of the role.

Lab Operations and Management

Coordinates all aspects of the simulation lab, including recordkeeping, scheduling, lab set-up, and management of lab equipment and supplies. Performs minor maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to simulation lab equipment, and supports related training processes. Ensures the simulation/skills labs are clean, safe, and organized, and promotes safe simulation lab practices. Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports. Develops and implements simulation lab policies and procedures. Orients and assists faculty and students in the skills/simulation lab setting. Conducts inventories of simulation lab equipment and orders supplies as needed; monitors the simulation lab budget and supplies. Researches, evaluates, and recommends new simulation lab materials, equipment, and simulations.

Service

Serves as an active member of the Department of Nursing, providing service to the department and serving on department committees. Collaborates with faculty to interview, schedule, and monitor simulation lab assistants and faculty. Participates in program, curriculum, and department policy development and evaluation, including the development, evaluation, and revision of student policies such as admission, progression, retention, and graduation. Contributes to the development, implementation, evaluation, and updating of the purpose, mission, and objectives of the nursing education program.

Administrative

Complies with accreditation and Colorado State Board of Nursing requirements. Works a flexible schedule that may include occasional evenings and weekends. Performs other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing, healthcare, education, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Active, unrestricted Colorado RN license, multistate license through the Nurse Licensure Compact, or eligibility for Colorado licensure by endorsement at the time of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of relevant work experience
  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience in the area of responsibility
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certificate, or ability to obtain within two (2) years of hire
  • Knowledge of high-fidelity simulators to develop patient scenarios
  • Knowledge of healthcare informatics, including electronic records and telecommunication technology, as well as medical and lab equipment
  • Familiarity with all nursing specialties (medical/surgical, obstetrics, mental health, pediatrics, and community health)
  • Documented simulation training or mentorship from a qualified training program or vendor
  • Available to complete INACSL training

  • Travel: For professional development and occasional events

Salary for Announcement

Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The anticipated hiring range that the university reasonably expects to pay for this position is $90,000 - $101,000.

This position is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denver benefits
