Job Description

The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital plays a vital role supporting Nursing Professional Development and the Ball Memorial Hospital Simulation Center, along with supporting the American Heart Association (AHA) training center. Leveraging expert practice judgment, this role focuses on enhancing the professional role competence and growth of learners across various settings. The practitioner delivers targeted education, competency development, and simulation-based learning experiences that foster clinical excellence and support the IU Health Way. This role partners with unit and facility leaders to achieve strategic educational goals aligned with system priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate onboarding and orientation for new staff, integrating AHA guidelines and simulation-based training.
  • Manage competency assessment and development, emphasizing evidence-based practices from the AHA and simulation scenarios.
  • Develop and deliver innovative educational programs and simulation experiences tailored to diverse learner needs, supporting AHA certifications and competencies.
  • Support role development initiatives through targeted education and simulation activities.
  • Build collaborative partnerships with leaders, the AHA, and the Simulation Center to meet organizational and system-wide educational objectives.
  • Foster a culture of inquiry, evidence-based practice, and simulation-based learning to improve patient outcomes.

Position: Part-Time (0.8 FTE, 32 hours/week); fully benefit eligible

Schedule: Monday – Friday (No weekends, holidays, or call requirements)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree of Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department/specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Two years experience preferred.
  • Must have the ability and willingness to travel as needed to meet the system educational needs.
  • Must have the ability to display knowledge and utilization of principles of adult learning.
  • American Heart Associate, Emergency Department, or Critical Care experience preferred.
