Job Description


Extern II and License vocational nurse assists in the assessing, planning, implementation and evaluating of patient's needs under the supervision and direction of the RN.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education: Current licensure with the State of Texas, Appropriate CPR Certification. Minimum Work Experience: None
Required Licenses/Certifications: ICU-ACLS & TNCC, Telemetry-ACLS, Surgical-ACLS & TNCC. All required within 18 months of hire date.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: General knowledge of basic bedside nursing. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to age of the patients served in assigned area/department. The skills and knowledge to provide such care are gained through education, training, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualification: Specialty Certification.
JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
1. Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the HMHD Compliance Plan.

6. Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological and spiritual support to patients, friends and families.
7. Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching patient friends and family to understand condition, medications and self-care skills; answering questions.
8. Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing departments philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice acts and other governing agency regulations
9. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel.
10. Maintains department specific certifications per policy.
11. Maintains state Licensure.
12. Exemplifies Spirit of Excellence.
13. Refers to policies and procedures when appropriate.
14. Reports observation of changes in patients condition promptly and accurately to care 2 0 giver or shift manager.
15. Assists caregivers in performing routine elements of patient care and patients of all ages.
16. Performs daily assigned duties , i.e., linen, water, dirty utility room, routine workstation clearing , etc. in timely manner.
17. Schedules and completes tasks within allotted time frame.
18. Is adaptable and responsive to change (including floor assignments).
19. Knows and follows chain of command and maintains confidentiality of information.
20. Administers medications with awareness of indications, contra indications, major actions, dosages, methods of administration and major side effects.
21. LVN- Performs shift assessment/reassessment per policy. Responds appropriately to serious and/or life threatening emergencies, and communicates effectively with the healthcare team.
22. LVN-Provides input to the plan of care. Evaluates patient's response to care and revised plan of care accordingly.
23. Demonstrates knowledge of Current Nursing Techniques, skills, principles and the nursing process and utilizes this knowledge when caring for patients of all ages.
