About the Cardiac Direct Access Unit (CDAc)

The Cardiac Direct Access Unit (CDAc), located on BIDMC's West Campus, offers a unique opportunity to work in an innovative, fast-paced cardiovascular care setting that bridges outpatient and observation-based care. The department combines two closely integrated services—the Ambulatory Cardiology Clinics and the Observation Unit—to provide timely, specialized care for patients with cardiac conditions requiring urgent evaluation and treatment.

Serving patients referred through the BILH network, CDAc focuses on individuals experiencing new or worsening cardiac symptoms, as well as patients within the Advanced Heart Failure, Structural Heart, and Electrophysiology programs.

The department includes:

Five outpatient cardiology exam rooms
Six overnight observation beds with continuous cardiac monitoring capabilities
A dedicated IV diuretic infusion suite

CDAc is staffed by a collaborative team of attending cardiologists and advanced practice providers who provide rapid assessment, triage, and treatment for patients with complex cardiovascular needs.

Key Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team focused on clinical excellence, patient care, and staff engagement.

  • Partner with nursing and physician leaders to drive strategic initiatives and operational performance.

  • Lead change management, process improvement, and innovation efforts.

  • Oversee recruitment, retention, workforce planning, and staff development.

  • Mentor clinical and operational leaders to support professional growth and strong clinical decision-making.

  • Manage departmental operations, including budgeting, resource allocation, productivity, and financial performance.

  • Collaborate across the organization to improve patient outcomes and advance BIDMC's strategic goals.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Nursing required. Master's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Finance or Hospital Administration preferred.

License Registered Nurse required., and Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required.

3-5 years related work experience required and 0-1 years supervisory/management experience required

Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

1-3 years supervisory/management experience

Patient Population

Provides care and oversight for neonatal, adult, and geriatric populations.

Physical Requirements

Requires frequent movement throughout the hospital, prolonged standing, and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.

Pay Range:

$180,000.00 USD - $230,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
