Primary Scheduled Hours: Days, up to 40 hours per week

PROGRAM SUMMARY

The Nursing Assistant – Certified Program at River Mountain Training Center is a Washington State Board of Nursing approved training program. Students complete required classroom, skills lab, and supervised clinical hours to become eligible for the Washington State nursing assistant competency evaluation and certification as a Nursing Assistant-Certified (NAC). Clinical training takes place in the NHHS assisted living setting under the direct supervision of program instructors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE STUDENT

  • Attend all scheduled classroom, skills lab, and clinical sessions.
  • Perform resident care skills only as assigned by, and under the direct supervision of, a program instructor.
  • Demonstrate competency in each required skill before performing it on a resident.
  • Maintain resident privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
  • Follow NHHS policies on infection prevention, resident rights, safety, and incident reporting as taught in the program.
  • Report changes in resident condition and any safety concerns immediately to the supervising instructor.
  • Complete all assignments, skills checklists, and evaluations by program deadlines.
  • Maintain professional conduct, appearance, and communication with residents, families, and staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: High school graduate, GED, or currently enrolled in high school.
  • Age: Minimum 18 years of age at program start.
  • Background: Washington State background check clearance prior to resident contact.
  • Health: Documentation of required immunizations, tuberculosis screening, and any other health requirements set by NHHS Employee Health.
  • Language: Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficient to follow written and verbal instructions and to document resident care.
  • References: Three business or work references not related to the applicant. If not applicable, three school or personal references not related to the applicant.

APPLICATION DISCLOSURE

Applicants must disclose whether they have ever pled guilty or no contest to, or been convicted of, a misdemeanor or fraud. Answering yes does not constitute automatic disqualification. Factors such as date of the offense, seriousness and nature of the violation, rehabilitation, and the position applied for will be taken into account. Falsified statements on the application, or failure to furnish requested information, are sufficient cause for dismissal from the program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Interest in caring for older adults.
  • Dependability, punctuality, and accountability for assigned work.
  • Ability to accept and apply instructor feedback.
  • Ability to work as part of a care team.
  • Basic computer skills for completing online learning modules in the NHHS learning management system.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting during clinical sessions.
  • Ability to safely assist with resident transfers and repositioning using proper body mechanics and assistive equipment.
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, body fluids, and cleaning chemicals with appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Work in a residential care environment with residents with a range of physical and cognitive needs.

PROGRAM COMPLETION

Students who successfully complete all required hours, skills competencies, and program evaluations receive documentation of program completion and are eligible to apply to the Washington State Department of Health for the nursing assistant competency evaluation. Program completion does not guarantee employment with NHHS.

NHHS employs six primary care physicians, four emergency room physicians, one hospitalist, six health care affiliates, three pharmacists, two Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, and five surgeons (general, orthopedic, gynecology, podiatry). We offer complete obstetrical care including epidural anesthesia and Cesarean deliveries in a private, family setting.

Outpatient services are comprised of full-service diagnostic imaging (radiology), laboratory, pathology and licensed physical, occupational, and speech therapy. NHHS also offers short stay and same day surgical services and a fully staffed general medical acute care unit.
