Examples of duties

Six months of experience or training in patient care; OR

Possession of a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate; OR

Completion of an accredited Registered Nursing, Practical Nursing, Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician Program.

NOTE:
Positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid or Medicare funds require that applicants possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.

Job Duties:

  • Provide personal hygiene, which includes but is not limited to bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, nail care, skin care, etc., for patients. Change soiled linens when necessary. Turn and position ambulated patients as required by the ward nurse.
  • Obtain and record vital signs of patients and report abnormal readings to the ward nurse. Provide personal interaction/stimulation to aid in daily resident orientation. Accurately maintain patient records of ADLs, round sheets, restraint records, and weight records.
  • Make ward rounds every hour or ½ hour, as designated by shift, of assigned patients to determine their needs and maintain safety. Monitor patients’ general condition and appearance to the ward nurse.
  • Weigh patients, assist the physician and nurse as directed, collect specimens, Intake, and Output; provide and/or assist with the provision of special treatment procedures such as impactions, enemas, & douches. Assist in emergencies.
  • Direct and assist feeding of patients at mealtimes to ensure adequate nutrition and hydration, spoon feed as needed, distribute fluids, serve between-meal feedings, and provide bedtime snacks. Monitor intake and output of fluids.
  • Receive report from previous shift, make rounds to check and observe patients, report changes to ward nurse, give report to on-coming shift.
  • Participate in and attend departmental meetings and in-service programs. Attend mandatory training classes annually. Maintain CPR certification.
  • Performs other duties not listed in the job description but are necessary to expedite patient care and for the smooth operation of the department.

Position-Specific Details:

Location: Nursing Department of LDH/OAAS/Villa Feliciana Medical Complex, Jackson, Louisiana.
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Detail to Special Duty
Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Nursing Assistant 1 or 2
Work Schedule: 12 hours with rotating weekends. The shifts are 5:45 am - 6:15 pm or 5:45 pm - 6:15 am.
Compensation:The Nursing Assistant 1 offers a SER of $13.74 hourly, along with a premium pay of up to $4.00 per hour. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The job title and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
