The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.

All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

The Nursing Administrator plays a critical leadership role in overseeing and directing nursing services within a state government healthcare setting. This position requires advanced management skills, clinical expertise, and the ability to lead a team of nurses and healthcare professionals in providing high-quality patient care. The Nursing Administrator is responsible for strategic planning, policy development, staff supervision, resource management, and ensuring that all nursing services align with state healthcare regulations and standards. This position reports to senior healthcare leadership and requires close collaboration with physicians, administrative staff, and other healthcare professionals.

Primary Responsibilities

Develop and implement long-term nursing goals, policies, and procedures that align with departmental and organizational objectives.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing programs and services to ensure continuous improvement in care delivery.
Supervise and manage nursing staff, including hiring, training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
Manage staffing schedules and ensure adequate coverage to meet patient care needs at all times.
Oversee the nursing department's budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to meet operational and patient care goals.
Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal healthcare regulations, including the Arkansas Nurse Practice Act and other relevant guidelines.
Maintain clinical expertise and serve as a resource for complex patient care issues and clinical decision-making.

Knowledge and Skills

Comprehensive knowledge of advanced nursing practices, patient care protocols, and clinical procedures.
Understanding of healthcare delivery systems, quality assurance, regulatory requirements, and resource management.

Minimum Qualifications

An associate’s degree in Nursing.

Licensure/Certifications

Must hold a valid, unrestricted Registered Nurse license issued by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing. Certification in Nursing Administration (e.g., Nurse Executive, Nurse Executive Advanced, or equivalent) is preferred but not required.
